Job summary

Aery Aviation, LLC in Newport News, Virginia, is seeking a Training and Development Specialist for a full-time, on-site role based in our Newport News office five days a week.

Who We Are Looking For

Aery Aviation is seeking an experienced Training and Development Specialist to assess organizational learning needs, design and deliver effective training programs, and support the continuous development of employees. This position is responsible for managing technical, safety, quality, maintenance, and flight operations training activities to meet or exceed company and regulatory requirements.

What You Will Be Doing
  • Conducts annual training needs assessments for maintenance, safety, quality, and flight operations personnel.
  • Performs training needs, analyzes and develops annual training plans, including budget forecasts.
  • Develops and maintains training schedules to ensure company and regulatory requirements are met.
  • Designs, develops, and implements employee training and development programs.
  • Creates course objectives, syllabuses, instructional materials, presentations, assessments, and related learning resources.
  • Plans, prepares, and delivers instructor-led, virtual, hands-on, and blended training programs.
  • Facilitates classroom and practical training sessions when hands-on instruction supports effective learning.
  • Develops learning strategies that encourage employee engagement, accountability, knowledge retention, and independent learning.
  • Partners with department managers and subject-matter experts to identify skill gaps and establish development priorities.
  • Coordinates and manages external training providers when specialized instruction is not available internally.
  • Evaluates training programs through assessments, surveys, performance data, and feedback.
  • Develops and monitors training, safety, and development metrics to measure program effectiveness.
  • Maintains accurate training records, completion documentation, certifications, and employee development plans.
  • Implements improvements to training content, delivery methods, and learning processes based on data and participant feedback.
  • Supports onboarding, continuing education, compliance training, technical development, and career-growth initiatives.
  • Ensures training materials and programs remain aligned with applicable company policies, quality standards, and regulatory requirements.
You Must Have
  • Previous experience as a training and development specialist, training instructor, instructional designer, training administrator, or similar role.
  • Experience conducting training needs assessments and developing employee learning programs.
  • High school diploma or equivalent education and experience; additional education or certification in training, education, human resources, organizational development, or a related field is preferred.
  • Experience developing training materials, presentations, course syllabuses, trackers, assessments, and instructional resources.
  • Working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Office tools and Microsoft applications.
  • Familiarity with AI web-based tools is preferred.
  • Familiarity with learning management systems and electronic training records is preferred.
  • Knowledge of adult learning principles, instructional design, and training evaluation methods.
  • Ability to set priorities, manage multiple projects, and demonstrate effective follow-through.
  • Strong verbal, written, presentation, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with employees, managers, subject-matter experts, external vendors, and senior-level leadership.
  • Ability to analyze training data and use metrics to recommend program improvements.
Nice to Haves
  • A broad and comprehensive knowledge of engineering, aircraft modification, and FAA certification/Supplemental Type Certification processes is preferred.
  • Ability to facilitate training in technical, operational, and hands-on environments.
  • Experience establishing and maintaining effective relationships with senior-level leadership.

  • AS9100 and ISO-required training.
  • FAA Part 145 training.
  • FAA Part 135 training.
  • Aery Aviation quality and technical training.
  • Aery Aviation corporate training.
  • Various government contract training.
  • Maintenance, safety, flight operations, compliance, and other role-specific development programs.
