The State of Minnesota is seeking a Trainee, Land Surveyor in the Roseville area to begin a two-year rotation within MnDOT’s Graduate Land Surveyor Program. You will gain experience across Construction, Legal Descriptions, Platting, Geodetics, and Right of Way while preparing for professional licensure.

Successful candidates will have a bachelor’s in Surveying (ABET) or related field, acceptable GPA, and a valid driver’s license; LSIT preferred.

The Minnesota Department of Transportation's Graduate Land Surveyor Program is a 2-year rotation program allowing Trainees to gain professional surveying experience by completing short rotations in multiple areas of surveying. Sample rotations include Construction, Legal Descriptions, Platting, Geodetics, or Right of Way.

This vacancy posting will be used to fill Trainee, Land Surveyor positions in MnDOT's Graduate Land Surveyor Program. This Trainee position will be homebased in District 6 Rochester. The selected Trainee(s) will begin employment after all educational requirements have been met. Upon successful completion of the two (2) year training program, the Trainee will be promoted to a Land Surveyor in Training and be permanently assigned to District 6 Surveys in Rochester.

To successfully complete the program, a Trainee must: 1) Complete two (2) years of professional surveying experience; 2) Obtain Fundamentals of Surveying (FS) registration; 3) Demonstrate satisfactory performance in all rotations; 4) Complete all required rotations including a rotation in St. Paul; and 5) Complete 20 hours of recruitment outreach and/or public engagement service. When all criteria are met the Trainee will be non-competitively promoted to a Land Surveyor in Training position. Failure to meet any of these requirements may result in termination.

Additionally, all Trainees must become a registered, Professional Land Surveyors within 6 years of being appointed as a Trainee. MnDOT is committed to making sure surveyors are able to gain all necessary experience to meet this requirement.

Minimum Qualifications

To receive credit for your education and experience, your resume should clearly describe your experience in the areas listed and indicate the beginning and ending month and year for each job held.

• A bachelor’s degree in Surveying from an ABET accredited college/university or equivalent OR a bachelor’s degree in a closely related field that includes 22 semester hours of surveying curriculum. Additionally, candidates in their final year of a surveying program are also eligible to apply, but all offers of employment will be contingent upon successfully completing the educational requirement.

• A GPA of at least 2.5.

• A valid class D driver's license.
