Job summary

Denver Transit Operators is seeking a Train Operator in Denver, CO for a full-time, technical role. You will operate commuter trains, perform safety inspections, and help ensure on-time service while adhering to federal regulations and company rules.

Candidates will undergo an 8-10 week training program to earn the Federal licensure to operate the trains, with a focus on safety and operations knowledge. Uniforms, boots, and benefits accompany the role.

Qualifications

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Must be able to work in the US for any employer without sponsorship.
  • Must pass a background and drug & alcohol test.
  • Must have a valid US driver license and clean driving record.
  • Ability to work any shift, holidays or weekends.
  • Ability to follow safety guidelines.

Responsibilities

  • Perform pre-trip inspections and tests to meet pre-departure standards.
  • Ensure trains are on time to avoid passenger delays.
  • Monitor track conditions, signals, displays, radio and intercom communications; announce station arrivals or delays and assist in emergencies.
  • Coordinate with train staff and security to ensure passenger safety.
  • Complete reports and documentation as required, plus other duties as assigned.

Denver Transit Operators, (DTO) is a privately held company that has a 29-year contract with RTD to operate and maintain the new commuter rail system within the Greater Denver Metro area. We currently have opportunities to hire Train Operators and are seeking committed individuals who can successfully complete our 2-month training program to earn the Federal licensure to operate our commuter trains.

Pay:

Our Train Operators can expect to earn an hourly wage between $28.27 - $35.85 depending on experience, education & training.

What Will You Do?

  • In this position you will be responsible for operating commuter trains and yard services in accordance with Federal regulations and company rules & instructions.
  • Perform pre-tripinspections and tests to meet pre-departure standards.
  • Ensuring trains are on time to avoid passenger delays.
  • Monitoring track conditions, signals, displays, radio and intercom communications. Making train announcements regarding station arrivals or delays, including responding to any emergencies, assisting with the evacuation of passengers during emergencies.
  • Coordinate closely with train staff and security personnel to ensure the safety of all train users.
  • Complete reports and documentation as required, as well as all other duties as assigned.

This is a safety sensitive position subject to the rules & regulations of the Federal Railroad Administration and their Drug & Alcohol policy.

What Will You learn?

Our Train Operators play an important part in keeping our locomotives on the move. We will teach you the dynamic workings of our trains, as well as the rules and regulations that must be followed to operator our trains.

  • As a Train Operator, you will receive formal classroom and On-The-Job training as part of an 8-10-week formal training program.
  • You will need to pass the required on the job training and written examinations to become a federally licensed Train Operator.
  • You will learn primarily from our Rules Trainer as well as veteran Train Operators and Supervisors

What You Need to Bring: (Position Requirements)

  • Must be at least 21 years old.
  • Ability to work in the US for any employer without sponsorship & provide appropriate documentation.
  • Must be able to pass a background and drug & alcohol test which includes Marijuana use.
  • Must have a valid US driver license & clean driving record.(You will be driving company vehicles.)
  • Ability to work any shift, holidays or weekends as needed.
  • Ability to take direction and follow company and railroad safety guidelines.

PhysicalRequirements:

Must be able to pass a Physical & Physical Abilities evaluation, hearing and vision tests. Candidates can expect to be in a cab for much of their shift.

  • We provide uniforms, (11-sets of shirts & pants) & launder them for you!
  • You will receive a pair of Redwing work boots.
