Job summary

UPS is seeking an Automotive Technician to join our fleet maintenance team. The Trailer Mechanic will perform preventative maintenance on UPS Transportation Trailers and Converter Dollies, diagnose and repair non-power equipment including air and hydraulic systems, and work with various tools and diagnostic equipment.

The role requires active driver’s license, willingness to work 2nd or 3rd shifts (varies by location), and possession of personal hand tools. CDL preferred.

Qualifications

  • Current automotive mechanical experience
  • Experience using diagnostic equipment, scan tools, and PC
  • Possesses full complement of personal hand tools
  • Class A/B or A CDL preferred
  • Dependable with regular, timely attendance
  • Willing to work varying shifts and overtime as needed
  • Wears PPE as required
  • Works in a variable environment with temperature, dust, noise

Responsibilities

  • Meets DOT requirements for the job.
  • Bends, stoops, squats, kneels, climbs ladders and stairs.
  • Operates standard and manual transmissions and power tools.
  • Conducts diagnostics and basic repairs.
  • Maintains a safe and organized work area.

Job Description Seeking a reliable Automotive Technician to join our outstanding fleet maintenance team. The Trailer Mechanic will perform preventative maintenance on UPS Transportation Trailers and Converter Dollies. Will properly diagnose and perform necessary repairs to non-power equipment, including air brake systems and electrical systems. Automotive Technicians must be skilled in troubleshooting and maintaining various systems, including hydraulic brakes, air brakes, electrical systems, and engine controls. Automotive Technicians must be willing to work 2ndor 3rdshifts, including Monday through Friday, Sunday through Thursday as well as Tuesday through Saturday schedules, depending on the location’s need.Automotive Techniciansmust possess the required hand tools required to perform the applicable job assignment.

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Meets D.O.T requirements required by job assignment
  • Bends, stoops, squats, kneels, crouches, crawls, climbs ladders and stairs, stands, walks, and turns/pivots frequently throughout duration of workday
  • Sits infrequently, as required, throughout duration of workday
  • Exercises simple hand grasping, power hand grasping, fine hand manipulation, and reaching from foot level to above shoulder level as necessary to complete assigned tasks
  • Operates standard and manual transmission
  • Operates power and pneumatic tools
Requirements
  • Must have an active driver’s license issued by the state
  • Must be willing to work 2ndor 3rdshifts, including Monday through Friday, Sunday through Thursday as well as Tuesday through Saturday schedules, depending on the location’s need.
  • Must possess the required hand tools required to perform the applicable job assignment.
Knowledge and Skills
  • Current documented automotive mechanical experience
  • Experience using diagnostic equipment, scan tools and personal computer
  • Possesses full complement of personal hand tools
  • Class A/B or A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) preferred.
  • Dependable with ability to report to work on a regular and timely basis and complete scheduled workday on a consistent basis
  • Available to work varying shifts, additional hours and/or overtime depending on service needs
  • Wears personal protective equipment as required
  • Works in an environment with variable temperatures and humidity (climatic conditions), exposure to cleaning materials, petroleum products, dust, dirt, and noise, outside inclement weather, etc.
  • Works cooperatively in a diverse work environment
  • Communicates effectively through sight, hearing, and/or otherwise, to perform assigned tasks and maintain proper job safety conditions
Compensation

The starting pay for this position is $39.04 per hour. For union-represented postings, wage rates and ranges and benefit offerings are governed by applicable collective bargaining agreement provisions.

Hired applicants are eligible for weekly pay, extensive training, 401(K), defined-benefit pension plan, medical-dental and vision after waiting and or probation period, $0 healthcare premium, paid vacation, paid sick and family and medical leave time as required by law, paid holidays, discounted employee stock purchase program.
