Atlas Van Lines is seeking a Trailer Service Technician Intern in Evansville, IN. This hands-on learning role supports experienced technicians with trailer and fleet repairs, maintenance, and installations. You’ll gain welding exposure, vehicle upkeep, and shop skills in a team environment.

You will learn basic fabrication, painting prep, inspections, and parts handling, while developing strong safety habits and reliability as part of Atlas' intern program.

Qualifications

• Enrolled in a high school work-to-school, vocational, or technical program.
• Interest in automotive repair, diesel tech, welding or skilled trades.
• Prior shop/technical coursework preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Follow safety procedures and maintain a clean work area.
• Assist with inspections, maintenance, and repairs on trailers and fleet equipment.
• Prepare vehicles for painting and vinyl installation (cleaning, sanding, masking).
• Assist with trailer and truck equipment installations (liftgates, storage, etc.).
• Learn basic welding, fabrication, and mechanical repair under supervision.
• Perform routine shop tasks: tools, equipment, and workspace organization.
• Support parts inventory: locate, organize and stage parts.
• Participate in quality inspections to ensure standard work.
• Communicate progress with supervisors and teammates.
• Complete additional shop and maintenance projects as assigned.

About the Role

The Trailer Service Technician Intern is a hands‑on learning opportunity for students interested in automotive, diesel, welding, fabrication, or skilled trades careers. Working alongside experienced technicians, this role assists with repairing, maintaining, and improving trailers, box trucks, and other fleet equipment. The intern will gain exposure to welding, vehicle maintenance, painting, inspections, and equipment installations while developing valuable technical and workplace skills in a safe, team‑oriented environment.

What You’ll Do

• Follow all company safety procedures and maintain a safe work environment.
• Assist technicians with inspections, maintenance, and repairs on trailers, box trucks, and fleet equipment.
• Help prepare vehicles and trailers for painting and vinyl installation through cleaning, sanding, masking, and finishing activities.
• Assist with trailer and truck equipment installations, such as liftgates, storage systems, and other accessories.
• Learn basic welding, fabrication, body repair, and mechanical repair techniques under the supervision of experienced team members.
• Perform routine shop tasks, including organizing tools, maintaining equipment, and keeping work areas clean.
• Support parts inventory activities by helping locate, organize, and stage parts for repair projects.
• Participate in quality inspections to ensure completed work meets company standards.
• Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members regarding assigned projects.
• Complete additional shop and maintenance projects as assigned.

Qualifications

What You’ll Need

• Must be at least 18 years old and currently enrolled in a high school work‑to‑school, vocational, or technical education program.
• Interest in automotive repair, diesel technology, welding, manufacturing, transportation, or skilled trades careers.
• Previous shop, automotive, agricultural, welding, or technical coursework is preferred but not required.
• Willingness to learn new skills and take direction from experienced team members.
• Ability to safely use hand tools and equipment after appropriate training.
• Strong attendance, reliability, and work ethic.
• Ability to work independently on assigned tasks and as part of a team.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality work.
• Effective communication skills and a positive attitude.
