Job summary

Saia Inc. is seeking a Trailer Mechanic to maintain, diagnose, and repair tractors and trailers used for transporting goods. You will service, inspect, and repair several trailer systems, ensuring safe operation and uptime across our network.

Position requires the ability to read, write, and communicate in English, provide personal tools, and work in a team environment. Experience with diagnostic software is preferred and pay ranges between $32.60 and $37.15 per hour, depending on experience.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years old.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Authorized to work in the United States.
• Must provide and maintain personal maintenance tools.
• Read, write, communicate and comprehend English.

Responsibilities

• Service, inspect, and repair tractor-trailers.
• Diagnose failures and repair mechanical and electrical trailer systems.
• Use hydraulic jacks/hoists to access trailer undersides.
• Conduct full trailer inspections to identify issues.
• Test trailers after repairs to ensure operation.
• Maintain detailed service and maintenance records.
• Repair brakes, tires, axles, wiring, and hydraulic systems.

Position Summary

Maintains, diagnoses, and repairs trailers used for transporting goods.

Major Tasks and Responsibilities

• Services, inspects, and repairs tractor-trailers.
• Diagnoses failures and makes repairs on mechanical, electrical, and various systems on a trailer.
• Uses hydraulic jacks and hoists to gain access to the underside of trailers.
• Conducts full inspections of trailers to identify any issues.
• Tests trailers after repairs to ensure they are operating without issues.
• Maintains a detailed record of all service and maintenance activities.
• Repairs defective parts such as brakes, tires, axles, wiring, and hydraulic systems.

Minimum Qualifications

• Must be at least 18 years of age.
• High school diploma or GED.
• Authorized to work in the United States.
• Must provide and maintain personal maintenance tools.
• Read, write, communicate and comprehend the English language in order to perform the various tasks of the job, including but not limited to: converse with co-workers and members of the general public; understand oral and written instructions as well as governmental regulations; respond to questions and inquiries from management and government representatives; and accurately review and complete various documents, reports and records required of the position.

Preferred Qualifications

• 2 years of trailer mechanic experience.
• Proficiency in diagnostic software.

• Frequent lifting, pushing, pulling, or carrying of tools, parts, and equipment up to 100 pounds.

• Ability to climb on, under, and around large trucks and equipment safely.
• Adequate vision (with or without correction) to read gauges, manuals, and perform detailed inspections.
• Adequate hearing (with or without aids) to detect equipment sounds, communicate, and follow safety signals.

Pay Rate: 32.60 - 37.15 per hour, based on experience
