Job summary

XPO Logistics is hiring a Heavy Duty Technician in Atlanta area to perform routine maintenance on trailing equipment and ensure DOT/compliance standards. You will inspect, repair, and rebuild systems, operate specialized tooling, and document work orders to keep trailers in top condition.

Qualifications

  • Minimum 1 year in heavy-duty maintenance or entry-level technician role.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and ability to pass safety inspections.
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to work varied shifts.

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine maintenance and adjustments on trailing equipment per manufacturer, DOT and company schedules.
  • Inspect equipment, access all areas, and perform work on trailers as needed.
  • Repair or rebuild systems; ensure DOT/OSHA compliance; maintain productive workflow.
  • Operate tooling and move trailers; enter times and parts on repair orders; keep areas clean and safe.

Pay and Benefits
  • Expected pay range: $28.23 to $35.67 per hour. Pay is on an annual step progression. Actual compensation may vary due to factors such as experience and skill set.

What You'll Do on a Typical Day
  • Perform routine maintenance functions and adjustments on trailing equipment, in compliance with the manufacturers, DOT, and company schedules
  • Access any area of the equipment to perform necessary maintenance, including inspecting and performing work in, on or under parts of trailers
  • Repair or rebuild all or part of equipment systems
  • Apply knowledge and work in accordance with DOT, EPA, Interstate Authority, OSHA and other rules and regulations, as required
  • Maintain proficiency on equipment and technologies that enhance our productivity
  • Move trailers throughout the property, operate a hostler in all types of weather
  • Enter job times and parts on repair orders to track activity
  • Operate specialized tooling and vehicles
  • Ensure work area is always clean, safe, and organized
  • Interact with operations and shop management
Qualifications
  • At a minimum, you’ll need:
    • 1 year of verifiable experience in heavy duty maintenance and/or time in the Entry‑Level Technician role
    • A valid driver’s license
    • Ability to perform safety inspections of equipment and prepare safety documentation
    • Basic computer skills
    • Availability to work a variety of shifts, including days, evenings, nights and weekends
    • Brake inspection qualified as defined in the FDCSA regulations, Section 369.25
    • Vehicle inspection qualified in the FDCSA regulations, Section 369.19
    • Basic hand tools required for heavy duty trailer maintenance
  • It’d be great if you also have:
    • High school diploma or equivalent
    • Prior mechanical experience such as automotive or skilled trades
    • Diesel tech school diploma
    • Previous or current ASE certifications
    • Basic welding skills (Oxy/Acetylene, MIG and ARC)
  • This job requires the ability to:
    • Lift objects up to 50 lbs. frequently and more than 75 lbs. occasionally
    • Safely walk and stand for extended periods of time on various surfaces that may be uneven or slippery, including working outdoors in inclement weather
    • Reach (including above your head), bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat and kneel
    • Walk and stand for extended periods of time on a loading dock that is not climate-controlled and may be slippery
