Job summary

Florida Department of Transportation in District Six is seeking a Traffic Specialist IV to support traffic operations and safety initiatives. Qualifications

Responsibilities

The Work You Will Do:

Traffic Specialist IV, District Six Traffic Operations

This position will support FDOT by helping make Florida’s roads safer, easier to travel, and more reliable. It does this by reviewing traffic conditions, visiting locations in the field, and identifying problems that affect safety and traffic flow. After finding these issues, it develops practical, data‑based solutions and prepares the engineering reports needed to carry them out. The role also works closely with coworkers, local agencies, and the public to ensure improvements are coordinated and implemented smoothly. In addition, it maintains the quality of FDOT projects by checking plans for consistency with traffic engineering standards and overseeing consultant contracts that support the Traffic Operations Unit.

Annual Salary Range:

A Competitive Area Differential (CAD) additive in the amount of $1976.00 will be added to the annual salary.

Your Specific Responsibilities:

Perform engineering review and analysis, develop engineering reports and associated documents (work orders, traffic regulations, signal operating plans, benefit/cost analysis, etc.) This includes field assessments, applying engineering principles and judgment to identify operational and safety deficiencies and appropriate remedial action. Coordinate with Department staff, affected external agencies and customers as required. Ensure coordination of resources necessary to implement remedial action.

Assist in development and management of professional and contractual services contracts and other types of agreements that support Traffic Operations functions. Includes developing documentation for contract funding, request for proposal (RFP) and related documents, participation on technical review committees (TRC), evaluation of contract work products, consultant evaluation and invoice processing / approval.

Provide review comments on plan submittals generated by the Department and other entities. This includes developing technical comments directed to the design project manager or design engineer of record based on traffic engineering fundamentals, Department design standards and engineering judgment. Includes accepting/rejecting the responses to those comments.

Participate in meetings and presentations with internal and external customers to represent Traffic Operations interests. Provide useful commentary and review of work products, development of correspondence and follow-up contact as needed.

Other Job-Related Requirements:

• The incumbent may be required to work extra hours. During a declared emergency event, the incumbent will be required to assist the District as needed. Responsible for adhering to the provisions and requirements of section 215.422, Florida Statutes (FS) related State Comptroller’s rules and Department of Transportation’s invoice processing and warrant distribution procedures.

Minimum Qualifications:

• A high school diploma and four years of engineering, traffic studies, or traffic safety experience; or An associate of arts or science degree in computer science, engineering technology, or similar relevant area of study and two years of engineering, traffic studies, or traffic safety experience; or A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in engineering, computer science, engineering technology or similar relevant area of study and one year of engineering, traffic studies, or traffic safety experience; or Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering Exam and has an Engineer in Trainee (EIT) certification in either Florida or another State; or An active International Municipal and Signal Association (IMSA) Sign and Pavement Marking certification.
