Job summary

Stantec’s Transportation Planning and Traffic Engineering team in Florida is seeking an entry-level Transportation Engineer to join the team. You will build foundational skills in data preparation, analysis, and presentation while supporting transportation planning and engineering projects of varying size and complexity.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution.
• EI or EIT certification, or the ability and willingness to obtain certification within 12 months of hire.
• Fundamental to novice experience with MUTCD, HCM, and HSM preferred; Synchro and ArcGIS familiarity a plus.

Responsibilities

• Perform traffic forecasting and traffic operations analysis.
• Support safety network screening, site diagnosis, countermeasure selection, and economic appraisal using historical, predictive, and systemic safety analysis methods.
• Participate in field reviews and data collection.
• Assist with concept development including signing, striping, signalization, and channelization per FDOT/FHWA guidance.
• Support development of technical documentation, graphics, memorandums, reports, and presentations.
• Collaborate with project team on transportation planning and safety assignments.

Your Opportunity

Stantec’s Transportation Planning and Traffic Engineering team in Florida is growing based on recent project wins and is seeking a full-time, entry-level Transportation Engineer to join the team.

Our Lake Mary, Tampa, Coral Gables, and Sarasota team currently consists of a dozen professionals who are passionate about traffic and safety engineering and excited to provide mentorship to new problem solvers.

As an entry-level engineer, you will build foundational skills in data preparation, analysis, and presentation, as well as effective communication, time management, critical thinking, and problem-solving. You will support transportation planning and engineering projects of varying size and complexity.

Your Key Responsibilities

Typical projects include:

• Transportation impact assessments.

• Access, circulation, and parking studies.

• Safety action planning.

• Safety engineering studies and conceptual design.

Major components of these projects include:

• Performs traffic forecasting and traffic operations analysis.

• Supports safety network screening, site diagnosis, countermeasure selection, and economic appraisal using historical, predictive, and systemic safety analysis methods.

• Participates in field reviews.

• Assists with concept development, including signing, striping, signalization, and channelization elements based on State (FDOT) and Federal (FHWA) standards and guidance.

• Supports the development and preparation of technical documentation, including graphics, memorandums, reports, and presentations.

• Collaborates with project team members on transportation planning, traffic engineering, and safety-related assignments.

• Assists with data preparation, analysis, and presentation for projects of varying size and complexity.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Highly motivated individual with a genuine curiosity for traffic and safety engineering and planning.

• Effective communication, critical thinking, problem-solving, and time management skills.

• Ability to work collaboratively within a project team environment.

• Novice to intermediate experience with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.

• Fundamental to novice experience with the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), Highway Capacity Manual (HCM), and Highway Safety Manual (HSM) preferred.

• Fundamental to novice experience with Synchro and ArcGIS preferred.

• Engineer Intern (EI) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) certification, or the ability and willingness to obtain certification within 12 months of the date of hire.

Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited institution by date of hire.

• Master’s degree in Civil Engineering or a related field from an accredited institution preferred.
