Job description

RK&K is hiring Traffic Field Technicians to join our team in Wilmington, DE. As a Field Technician on our traffic team you will install, collect, and report traffic related data for studies, research, analysis, and design projects throughout MD, DE, PA.

Essential Functions

• Install traffic counting devices, primarily pneumatic road tubes, in the roadway


• Set traffic counting cameras adjacent to the roadway, as needed


• Perform manual traffic counts (turning movement counts), observe traffic patterns and record observations, as needed


• Collect traffic counting devices at the conclusion of a project and download/summarize the data


• Assist Traffic, Data Collection and Inspection teams, as needed


• Maintain traffic data collection equipment


• Work is often done at night during lower traffic times - must be willing to work a flexible schedule to accommodate traffic conditions and perform work as safely as possible

Required Skills and Experience

• Ability to regularly lift and carry objects up to 75 lbs. while loading vehicle and setting up/removing traffic counting equipment, including bending, kneeling, operating hand and power tools (hammer, crowbar, etc.), lifting objects and reaching above the head, and occasionally climbing ladders


• Safety conscious and must pass or already hold Basic Work Zone Safety Training Course. Training will be provided.


• Must be able to read maps, navigate to sites and collect GPS coordinates accurately


• Must have good verbal/written communication, organizational and problem-solving skills


• Proficient computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite, Excel, and Google Earth.


• Work is outdoors - must be willing and able to work exposed to the elements in all weather conditions


• Must have a valid driver's license, clean driving record and reliable transportation


• Must be able to operate a vehicle safely while frequently entering and exiting travel lanes, including the ability to work responsibly and safely in/near roadways (streets, highways, freeways)


• Must be able to work effectively alone and as a team, typically with one other traffic technician
