Job summary

A leading engineering firm is seeking a dynamic traffic engineer to join its collaborative team in Mechanicsburg, PA. You will be responsible for a variety of traffic design projects, including preparation of detailed plans and supporting project management efforts. The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering, at least 8 years of relevant experience, and a strong understanding of DOT standards and traffic analysis tools. This full-time position offers a chance to contribute to community infrastructure improvements.

HDR is in search of a dynamic, diverse, and talented traffic engineer to join our team.

Responsibilities

• Be an integral part of the area Traffic and Planning team as a technical resource on a variety of traffic design projects.
• Prepare signing, pavement marking, signal, lighting, temporary traffic control, and intelligent transportation system (ITS) plans for stand-alone or multi-disciplinary projects.
• Perform detail checks and work closely with junior staff and technicians on plan development.
• Support Project Managers with the development of fee proposals, provide direction to internal project teams, ensure on-time submission delivery to clients, and monitor project finances.
• Additional assignments may include supporting regional offices on similar traffic design projects.

Qualifications

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering
• 8 years’ experience related to traffic planning and design
• Working knowledge of DOT standards, specifications, and plan preparation
• Computer skills using Microsoft Office, ProjectWise, HCS, Synchro, GuideSIGN, and ORD
• Ability to prioritize and multi-task while working on several projects at once
• Preference given to local candidates

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor\'s degree
• Experience with traffic analysis and traffic engineering/design
• Requires professional engineering license recognized by the licensing board for the location of the position offered (e.g., PE or P.Eng)
• Detailed hands-on experience conducting traffic design using CAD platforms including MicroStation, AutoCAD and Guide Sign software
• Detailed hands-on experience conducting operational analysis using tools such as HCS, Synchro, VISSIM, and Aimsun
• Detailed hands-on experience conducting safety analysis using safety software tools including Highway Safety Software
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, Word
• Strong verbal and written skills
