Job summary

Stantec is seeking a Traffic Engineer (PE) to work on high-profile roadway projects in Texas. You will design traffic signal systems, perform capacity and safety analyses, and develop PS&E packages for state and local projects.

The ideal candidate holds a BSCE, an active TX PE or ability to obtain within 6 months, and has at least 5 years of traffic engineering experience. Proficiency in OpenRoads Designer, SignCAD, AGI-32, ProjectWise, and MS Office is expected.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) required.
• TX PE license or ability to obtain within 6 months.
• Minimum of 5 years traffic engineering project experience.
• TxDOT Precertification preferred.
• Proficiency in OpenRoads Designer, SignCAD, and AGI-32.
• ProjectWise experience preferred.
• MS Office proficiency; ability to write technical reports.

Responsibilities

• Design and analyze traffic signals, timings, and ITS elements.
• Prepare PS&E plans and cost estimates for TxDOT/City/County projects.
• Conduct capacity, safety, and operation analyses per TxDOT standards.
• Coordinate with clients and agencies; lead project tasks.
• Mentor junior staff on design software and analyses.

Your Opportunity

Stantec is seeking a highly motivated, ambitious, Traffic Engineer (PE). The position will offer the opportunity to work on small and large high-profile roadway and highway projects. You will perform a variety of tasks that will require the application of sound principles and best practices.

Your Key Responsibilities

• Projects include traffic signal system design and re-timing, operational analysis, roadway capacity analysis, traffic safety studies, traffic signal, signing, and pavement marking and design, street lighting / illumination design, Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), and Advanced Traffic Management Systems (ATMS).
• Prepare construction documents and cost estimates for City, County and State roadway and highway projects.
• Perform complex engineering design tasks per Texas Department of Transportation’s (TxDOT’s) design standards.
• Plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate the technical aspects of assigned projects.
• Train developing staff on design and operational analysis software packages for traffic engineering projects.

Your Capabilities and Credentials

• Proficiency in OpenRoads Designer, SignCAD, and AGI-32
• ProjectWise experience preferred
• Proficient in Microsoft (MS) Office Suite, including writing technical reports and memos using Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
• Strong knowledge of the TxDOT design/planning procedures, and PS&E plan production
• Experience must include traffic operations and safety; highway capacity analysis; traffic operational analysis; Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD); designing and implementing traffic signal system timings; and preparing PS&E plans.
• Ability to solve complex problems using sound professional judgement, creativity, and innovation
• Ability to effectively discuss project issues with clients and reviewing agencies Ability to participate and collaborate in project team setting, and effectively communicate ideas, design issues and solutions to others

Education and Experience

• Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering (BSCE) minimum
• TX PE license or ability to obtain within 6 months
• Minimum of 5 years traffic engineering project experience
• TxDOT Precertification preferred

Pay Transparency:

In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
