Job summary

County of Hawai‘i in Hilo is seeking an Electrician, BC-10, for a permanent full-time vacancy in the Public Works - Traffic Division. The role involves installing and repairing electrical systems, testing and maintaining traffic signals and related equipment, with opportunities for advancement to the BC-12 level as part of the career ladder.

Applicants must meet the licensing and driver requirements, be available for stand-by duty, and may be asked to supervise helpers.

Qualifications

  • A combination of education and experience substantially equivalent to the stated requirements.
  • Completion of the eighth grade and four years of apprentice/journeylevel experience.
  • Possession of a valid Hawai‘i Journeylevel Electrician’s License at filing time.
  • Possession of a valid Hawai‘i Driver License at filing time; CDL considerations may apply.

Responsibilities

  • Installs conduits, transformers, traffic signals, pull boxes, plugs, outlets and switches.
  • Rewires buildings and maintains/repairs pumps and motors.
  • Inspects traffic signals, street lighting, switch gears and related equipment.
  • Reads blueprints, estimates costs and materials, and plans electrical installations.
  • Supervises helpers as assigned and may operate vehicles/heavy trucks.

Education

Eighth grade completion
Four years as apprentice under journeylevel electrician
Hawai‘i Journeylevel Electrician’s License
Hawai‘i Driver License (Class 3)
