Job summary

Alfred Benesch & Company in Kansas seeks a Traffic Engineer to join our growing team, working on transportation projects for municipal and DOT clients. You will perform engineering analyses, prepare traffic design plans, and support traffic management during construction, signing, pavement marking, and signals.

The ideal candidate holds a BS in Civil Engineering, with E.I.T preferred, and familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, GIS, and MS Office.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related discipline required.
  • E.I.T (or desire to obtain P.E. in the future) preferred.
  • Knowledge of AutoCAD Civil 3D, MicroStation, GIS, and Microsoft Office products is preferred but not required.
  • Knowledge of Synchro/Sim Traffic software, Highway Capacity Software, and other traffic analysis programs.
  • Demonstrated ability to work and collaborate in a team environment on challenging projects.
  • Willingness to be adaptable to office and field tasks.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Detailed, and organized individual who thrives in deadline driven.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and assimilate traffic data for traffic engineering studies.
  • Perform capacity analysis using traffic engineering software (Synchro, Highway Capacity Software, Sidra, Vissim).
  • Conduct traffic safety studies for municipal and DOT clients.
  • Develop geometric alternatives to improve traffic operations and safety.
  • Develop design plans for traffic management during construction, pavement marking, signage, and signals.
  • Organize capacity and safety analysis results to reports per agency standards.
  • Perform field or site visits as needed.
  • Develop cursory knowledge of applicable standards and use of CADD and MS software.

Traffic Engineer

Join our growing Traffic team as a Traffic Engineer. In this role you will work on various transportation projects with state and local transportation agencies. You will perform engineering analysis and supporting calculations / documentation relating to traffic safety and operations. You will prepare traffic design plans involving traffic management during construction, permanent signing, pavement marking and traffic signals for various municipal and DOT clients.

Location

This position is available to work from any of our Kansas offices. This includes Overland Park, KS, Topeka, KS, Wichita, KS, or Manhattan, KS. Hybrid work schedule is available.

The Impact You Will Have
  • Participate in collecting and assimilating traffic data for traffic engineering studies.
  • Perform capacity analysis using traffic engineering software (Synchro, Highway Capacity Software, Sidra, Vissim) for a variety of studies, including intersections, interchanges, corridor studies, and traffic impact studies for developments.
  • Conduct traffic safety studies for both municipal and DOT clients.
  • Develop geometric alternatives to improve traffic operations and safety under direction of others.
  • Develop design plans for traffic management during construction, pavement marking, signage, and traffic signals.
  • Organize capacity and safety analysis results to be included in reports to clientele, following agency standards.
  • Perform field or site visits as needed.
  • Develop cursory knowledge of applicable standards and use of applicable CADD and Microsoft software.
What We Are Looking For
  • Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering or related discipline required.
