Job summary

Texas Materials, a CRH Company, is seeking a Traffic Control Service Driver to operate company vehicles and traffic control equipment across Texas construction sites. You will set up, maintain, and relocate temporary traffic controls, ensuring safe work zones while coordinating with field crews and supervisors.

The role requires a valid driver's license, safety awareness, and readiness to travel, including nights and weekends.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• Ability to recognize traffic control hazards and promptly report or address unsafe conditions.
• Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.

Responsibilities

• Safely operate company vehicles to transport traffic control equipment, signs, barricades, cones, drums, and related materials to and from job sites.
• Deliver, install, maintain, relocate, and remove temporary traffic control devices within construction work zones.
• Set up and dismantle lane closures, construction zones, detours, and other temporary traffic control configurations as directed.
• Make necessary adjustments or replace traffic control devices to maintain safe and effective work zones.
• Assist with flagging and directing vehicle or pedestrian traffic when required.
• Coordinate with supervisors, foremen, paving crews, construction personnel, and other team members regarding changing traffic control needs.
• Respond promptly to service calls involving damaged, knocked-down, or displaced traffic control devices.
• Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicles and equipment.

The Traffic Control Service Driver operates company vehicles and traffic control equipment, performs routine inspections of work zones, responds to traffic control needs throughout the project, and works closely with field crews to ensure traffic control devices remain properly positioned and functional.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely operate company vehicles to transport traffic control equipment, signs, barricades, cones, drums, and related materials to and from job sites.
• Deliver, install, maintain, relocate, and remove temporary traffic control devices within construction work zones.
• Set up and dismantle lane closures, construction zones, detours, and other temporary traffic control configurations as directed.
• Make necessary adjustments or replace traffic control devices to maintain safe and effective work zones.
• Assist with flagging and directing vehicle or pedestrian traffic when required.
• Coordinate with supervisors, foremen, paving crews, construction personnel, and other team members regarding changing traffic control needs.

• Maintain company vehicles and equipment in a clean, safe, and serviceable condition.
• Report vehicle, equipment, and traffic control device damage or maintenance needs to the appropriate supervisor.
• Maintain awareness of moving vehicles, heavy equipment, construction operations, and changing roadway conditions.
• Perform other duties as assigned based on operational and project needs.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.

Education/Experience

• High school diploma or General Education Degree GED is preferred.
• Ability to recognize traffic control hazards and promptly report or address unsafe conditions.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

• Strong commitment to workplace and roadway safety.
• Situational awareness when working around moving traffic and heavy construction equipment.

Work Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age or older.
• Valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
• Must pass pre-employment physical, drug screen and criminal background check.
• Strict adherence to safety requirements and procedures as outlined in the Employee Handbook.
• Willingness to work in a team environment and assist co-workers or supervisors with other duties as required.
• Must be willing to travel and work away from home when required.
• Must be willing to work nights and weekends when necessary.
• Individuals are required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) in designated operations and production areas as stated by OSHA and/or MSHA. Protective equipment that may be required, but not limited to, for this position is: Face Shield, Safety (hard toe) Shoes, and Coveralls.
• Compliance with all OSHA and/or MSHA regulations
