Job summary

City of Yuma seeks a Civilian Traffic Investigator to support the Yuma Police Department by performing investigative duties and assisting Officers with traffic incidents. The role includes scene assessment, evidence gathering, taking measurements and photographs, interviewing drivers and witnesses, and preparing detailed reports.

Successful candidates will have a high school diploma or GED, one year of related experience, and may train in OC spray/Taser; perform duties in office and field

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required or equivalent.
• 1 year of accident investigation, accounting, or law enforcement experience preferred.
• May require training/qualification in OC spray and/or Taser.

Responsibilities

• Assist YPD Officers and Traffic Unit with investigative support duties.
• Investigate traffic accidents and hazardous incidents not requiring a sworn officer.
• Assess accident scenes, gather physical evidence, take measurements and photographs.
• Interview drivers, passengers, and witnesses; take detailed notes.
• Testify and present evidence in court as needed.
• Enter data into YPD database and maintain statistics.
• Prepare comprehensive reports with diagrams and photos.
• Support public relations by acting courteously toward citizens and staff.
