Job summary

Collier County is seeking a general trades helper to support plumbing and related maintenance tasks. You will assist senior tradespeople with inspection, repair, and installation of plumbing systems, identify leaks, replace fixtures, and perform preventive maintenance.

The role may involve on-call duties, weekend/holiday shifts, and coordinating with outside contractors. Requirements include a high school diploma or GED, fingerprinting, and approximately five months of related experience.

Responsibilities

• Assists upper-level tradesworker with routine maintenance and construction work in one or more trade areas (e.g., electrical, plumbing, HVAC/mechanical).
• Assists with inspecting, maintaining, repairing, and installing plumbing systems under supervision of qualified trades personnel.
• Identifies and helps repair leaks in water lines, drainpipes, valves, faucets, fixtures, and related plumbing components.
• Removes and replaces faucets, sinks, toilets, flush valves, urinals, drinking fountains, disposals, and other plumbing fixtures.
• Assists with repairing and maintaining domestic hot-water systems and related equipment.
• Clears clogged drains and sewer lines using approved tools.
• Inspects fixtures and mechanical rooms for leaks, corrosion, and other deficiencies.
• Performs preventive maintenance on plumbing fixtures and related systems.
• Maintains inventory of plumbing supplies and reports needs to supervisor.
• Responds to plumbing emergencies and helps restore service.
• Moves office furniture and assists outside contractors as needed.
• On-call and varying shifts, weekends and holidays may be required.

Job description

Performs general unskilled and semi-skilled work functions associated with assisting upper-level Tradesworker with routine maintenance and construction work in one or more trade areas, such as electrical, plumbing, HVAC/mechanical.

Assists with inspecting, maintaining, repairing, and installing water supply, sanitary waste, vent, storm drainage, and plumbing systems under the supervision of qualified trades personnel.

Identifies and helps repair leaks in water lines, drainpipes, valves, faucets, fixtures, and related plumbing components.

Removes and replaces faucets, sinks, toilets, flush valves, urinals, drinking fountains, disposals, and other plumbing fixtures.

Assists with repairing and maintaining domestic hot-water systems, water heaters, circulating pumps, mixing valves, expansion tanks, and related equipment.

Clears clogged sinks, toilets, floor drains, cleanouts, and sewer lines using plungers, hand augers, drain machines, and other approved equipment.

Installs and replaces pipe supports, hangers, clamps, insulation, strainers, seals, gaskets, and related components.

Assists with testing piping systems for leaks, pressure, proper flow, and drainage, documents findings, and reports deficiencies to the supervising tradesperson.

Inspects plumbing fixtures and mechanical rooms for leaks, corrosion, damaged components, unusual noises, improper drainage, and other visible deficiencies.

Performs preventive maintenance on plumbing fixtures, valves, pumps, drains, traps, backflow devices, and related systems.

Helps locate and operate water shutoff valves to isolate affected areas during repairs and emergencies.

Maintains accurate records of completed work, materials used, equipment conditions, meter readings, and recommended follow-up repairs.

Maintains an inventory of plumbing supplies, replacement parts, fittings, tools, and materials; notifies the supervisor when additional materials are needed.

Responds to plumbing emergencies, including broken pipes, overflowing fixtures, sewer backups, loss of water service, and failed water heaters; helps control damage and restore service.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS

Moves office furniture as necessary to accomplish other assigned tasks.

Assists outside contractors performing work for the County.

May be required to be on-call and/or regularly work on various shifts, weekends, and/or holidays as deemed necessary

Performs other related duties as required.

Essential Employees may be required to work during an undeclared emergency and/or declared emergency. On an incident-by-incident basis, the County’s Administrative Office will make the determination as to who will be required to work.

Salary offers above the minimum pay grade may be considered based on qualifications.

Essential Employees may be required to work during an undeclared or declared emergency. The County’s Administrative Office will determine who will be required to work on an incident-by-incident basis.
