The City of Winston-Salem, NC is seeking a HVAC Support Technician to assist in routine repairs and maintenance of City buildings and equipment. Under supervision, you will pass tools, prepare tasks, and support skilled workers on HVAC installations.

The role requires a high school diploma, some HVAC experience, and the ability to obtain EPA Section 608 certification within 6 months. You must be able to lift up to 100 lbs and work indoors/outdoors in varying conditions.

Under immediate supervision, performs routine semi-skilled HVAC work in assisting in the repair and maintenance of City buildings and equipment; does related work as required,

• Assists a skilled worker in making HVAC and related repairs and installations.
• Helps in various ways, such as passing tools and materials, doing preparatory work, performing trades tasks as directed and cleaning after work.
• Performs similar assistance in several of the trades; uses standard tools and equipment of the trades if needed.
• Uses standard tools and equipment of the trades
• Operates trucks to and from jobs and in running errands for skilled workers; cleans and cares for tools and equipment.
• Performs independently the more routine tasks in making building, HVAC and mechanical repairs in accordance with instructions.

Education and Experience

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school and some experience within the area of HVAC; preference will be shown to those possessing a vocational, trades school or technical school diploma in the HVAC installation and maintenance trade field.

Must possess or be able to obtain an EPA Section 608 Certification Card within 6 months of employment.

Physical Requirements

Must be able to lift or move up to 100 lbs. and maneuver within a 1 mile area; must be able to crawl, climb and work with small and large objects. This position will work indoors and outdoors and may be exposed to cold, heat, changing weather, adverse smells, loud sounds, repetitive operations and long periods of standing.
