Job summary

Mitsui & Co. Energy Marketing and Services (USA), Inc. in Houston seeks a Crude Oil Trader II to independently execute US domestic crude trades and optimize related physical assets.

You will manage daily positions, identify commercial opportunities, and ensure accurate reporting while collaborating with internal teams and Mitsui's global crude desks. The role requires an undergraduate degree with 5+ years in crude trading, strong analytical and communication skills, and proficiency with MS

Qualifications

  • 5+ years crude oil trading experience.
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent.
  • Fluent English.

Responsibilities

  • Execute US domestic crude oil trades and related contracts.
  • Manage positions within risk limits.
  • Identify market opportunities and ensure policy compliance.
  • Perform commercial/economic analysis for asset-backed strategies.
  • Provide timely reporting of positions, P&L drivers, exposures and trade rationale.
  • Support internal teams to ensure deals align with intent and timing.
  • Distribute US crude market intelligence and monitor Texas/Gulf Coast market developments.
  • Adhere to corporate risk management policies.

Summary

The Crude Oil Trader II is responsible for independently executing US domestic crude oil trades and optimizing related physical assets. This role manages daily positions, identifies commercial opportunities, and ensures accurate, transparent reporting while working closely with internal teams and global Mitsui crude desks.

The Crude Oil Trader II is responsible for independently executing US domestic crude oil trades and optimizing related physical assets. This role manages daily positions, identifies commercial opportunities, and ensures accurate, transparent reporting while working closely with internal teams and global Mitsui crude desks.

Essential Functions & Responsibilities
  • Execute US domestic crude oil trades, including physical/logistical contracts, and negotiate pipeline, storage, and logistics assets.
  • Manage positions within risk limits.
  • Identify market opportunities while complying with policies.
  • Conduct commercial/economic analysis and monitoring for asset-backed strategies and recommending execution, optimization, or exit.
  • Provide timely, accurate reporting of positions, P&L drivers, exposures, and trade rationale and risk.
  • Assist internal departments, such as Confirmations, Risk, IT, Accounting, and Global Mitsui crude trading teams to ensure deals are managed according to their intent in a timely and accurate manner
  • Distribute US crude market intelligence and competitive dynamics. Support Mitsui’s fundamental market analytics by monitoring market developments that may impact supply / demand within the Texas and Gulf Coast regions.
  • Other duties as directed by Manager
  • Adherence to all corporate Risk Management policies and procedures.
Required Skills & Abilities
  • Proficiency or the ability to effectively demonstrate proficiency with appropriate training with third party software licensed to the Company such as Microsoft Office (Excel, Power Point, Word).
  • Familiarity with ETRM systems.
  • Excellent analytical skills with keen attention to detail.
  • Exceptional communication skills. Possesses refined interpersonal verbal and written communication skills, including writing and telephone communication skills. Ability to present to senior managers when needed.
  • Ability to work in a team environment.
  • Ability to work independently with little to no supervision.
Education & Experience
  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent related work experience (Finance, Economics, Engineering, or Accounting preferred).
  • Minimum 5 years of crude oil trading or related physical markets
  • 5-10 years of experience in trading environment required.
Language Skills
  • Fluent verbal and written skills in English
Work Environment & Physical Demands

This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. Physical demands include prolonged periods of sitting and occasionally moving around to meet with different team members.
