Crate and Barrel is seeking a detail-oriented Trade Compliance Specialist to manage day-to-day trade compliance operations and serve as the primary daily contact for customs brokers and carriers. You will drive product classification, ensure PGA regulatory reporting, and support global trade across import, export, and cross-border operations.

The role is on-site in Northbrook, IL (Mon-Thu) with the flexibility to work remotely on Fridays, and it carries an Individual Contributor scope.

Qualifications

  • 2+ years of direct import/export trade compliance or customs operations experience.
  • Strong expertise in HTS classification methodologies and daily customs broker interaction.
  • Knowledge of U.S. CBP regulations and entry procedures.
  • Experience identifying and managing Partner Government Agency (PGA) requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as the primary daily point of contact for customs brokers and carriers.
  • Address operational inquiries, resolve entry holds, and ensure smooth import clearance.
  • Determine, validate, and maintain accurate HS/HTS classifications for all incoming products.
  • Identify, validate, and manage PGA requirements for proper regulatory reporting and clearance.
  • Validate COO determinations and ensure proper duty value declarations.
  • Perform routine audits on broker entry summaries, shipping documentation, and internal trade records.
  • Provide operational trade oversight for shipments to Canada, international partners, and cross-border movements.

Job description

We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Trade Compliance Specialist to manage our day-to-day trade compliance operations. In this role, you will serve as the primary daily contact for our customs brokers and carriers, driving product classification, and ensuring full compliance with Partner Government Agencies (PGAs).

This is a key hands-on position responsible for maintaining high data accuracy, conducting routine operational audits, and supporting global trade activities across import, export, and cross-border operations.

  • This is an on-site position (Monday through Thursday) based out of our Northbrook, IL office with the flexibility to work remotely on Fridays

  • This role is an Individual Contributor position

A day in the life as a Trade Compliance Specialist

  • Serve as the primary daily point of contact for customs brokers and carriers

  • Address operational inquiries, resolve entry holds, and ensure smooth import clearance

  • Determine, validate, and maintain accurate Harmonized System (HS/HTS) tariff classifications for all incoming products within our compliance database

  • Identify, validate, and manage PGA requirements (e.g., FDA, EPA, Lacey, CPSC) to ensure proper regulatory reporting and seamless clearance

  • Validate Country of Origin (COO) determinations and ensure proper additions and deductions from duty values (assists, royalties, freight, etc.) are accurately declared on import documentation

  • Perform routine audits on broker entry summaries shipping documentation, and internal trade records to ensure regulatory adherence and operational accuracy

  • Provide operational trade oversight for shipments to Canada, international franchise partners, and cross-border supply chain movements

We’d love to hear from you if you have…
