Job summary

St. Mary’s Food Bank in Phoenix is seeking a Tractor Trailer Driver (Class A) to operate company trucks on scheduled routes, pick up donated food, and return to the warehouse for loading and unloading. You will comply with DOT regulations, complete daily reports, and maintain vehicle safety and cleanliness.

The role requires CDL Class A, a good driving record, and the ability to read and follow highway signs and DONOR receipts. Hours typically start early and continue until the route is finished.

Qualifications

• High School or GED required.
• Minimum 1 year of demonstrated experience driving a commercial vehicle.
• CDL (Class A) required.
• Must pass FMCSA CDL English Proficiency test and read/speak to understand highway signs and reports.

Responsibilities

• Drive Class A/B truck on scheduled routes to pick up donated food and return to warehouse.
• Assist in loading/unloading trucks and using pallet jacks per policy and OSHA standards.
• Maintain DOT required logs and vehicle inspections; ensure proper temperature control and cross-contamination guidelines.

Are you interested in working for an organization that serves the community you live in? St. Mary’s Food Bank (SMFB) has an opening for a Tractor Trailer Driver (Class A). The Tractor Trailer Driver is responsible for driving a company truck on a regularly scheduled route to pick up donated food products from food donors and returning to the appropriate warehouse for loading and unloading. Additionally, the driver may pick up product from “write-ins” and other unscheduled destinations, and occasionally transports product to off-site locations, including our partner Agencies.

Hours are 5am-until route is finished

Pay starting at $27/hr.

Essential Functions

• Responsible for the upkeep of assigned company vehicles to ensure Safety, Fueling, DOT and Appearance standards are met.
• Assists in the loading/unloading of SMFBA trucks working under the direction of warehouse authority. Operating manual or electric pallet jacks according to SMFBA policy and OSHA standards. Pre-loading equipment needed for the following day’s route needs. Washing out trailers/truck boxes to ensure cleanliness.
• Completes Driver Record of Duty and Vehicle Inspection Reports as required by the Department of Transportation and SMFBA. Maintaining the proper handling of food to ensure specific temperatures measures and cross contamination guidelines are adhered to.
• Responsible for the proper labeling of pallets and Food Drive boxes to include the Donor’s name.
• Responsible for accurately filling out Donation Receipts with all pertinent information required, neatly.
• Responsible for the pick-up and delivery of food donations, ensuring on-time standards are met to the Donor’s satisfaction.
• Responsible for maintaining excellent relations with Food Donors/Merchants and Individuals, especially while driving.
• Completes daily reports as necessary.
• Required to drive a Class A or B truck to complete a pick-up or delivery.
• Reports to the Centralized Dispatch Supervisor for disposition during down time or delays.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• This is a safety sensitive position.

SKILLS / REQUIREMENTS

Minimum Qualifications required:

• Required: High School or GED.
• Required: Minimum 1 years of demonstrated and successful experience driving a
• commercial vehicle.
• Required: CDL (Class A)
• St. Mary’s drivers must be compliant with FMCSA and pass a CDL English Proficiency test. This is a requirement as a commercial motor vehicle carrier. Due to this, all drivers must be able to read and speak sufficiently to understand highways signs, respond to official inquiries, and make entries on reports and records per 49 CFR 391.11(b)(2)
• Good driving record,

• Ability to move and/or lift 50-75 lbs. on a consistent basis.
