J.B. Hunt Transport, Inc. in Joliet, IL is seeking a Tractor Technician Trainee in the Maintenance department.

This full-time, entry-level role focuses on gaining foundational knowledge of tools, shop safety, and air brake system repairs under close supervision. You may work outdoors and on varied shifts, including nights and weekends. You will shadow senior technicians, learn repair to manufacturer specs, and train in preventive maintenance and component replacement.

Qualifications

• 18+ years old; willing to work outdoors and multi-shift.
• HS Diploma or GED preferred.
• Able to communicate effectively (written and verbal).
• Capable of lifting up to 50 pounds.
• Able to multitask and read documents in English.
• Wears PPE and works independently or in a team.
• Basic listening, computer skills, deductive reasoning, organization, time management, and self-motivation.

Responsibilities

• Shadow a senior technician to learn repairs and shop standards.
• Follow shop safety procedures and maintain professional communication with JB Hunt personnel and customers.
• Train in routine preventive maintenance and air brake systems.

Job Summary

Under close supervision, this position is responsible for gaining foundational knowledge of tools, equipment, shop safety, and J.B. Hunt Shop rules, policies, and procedures. The incumbent will learn to become efficient in, but not limited to, Air Break Systems and FHWA Inspections and the general repairs associated with them. This position has the possibility to work outdoors, in the elements, or across multiple shifts including nights and/or weekends in addition to overtime; it requires full-time attendance.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities

• Shadow a more seniored team member to learn to perform repairs to company and manufacturer's specifications complete work orders, and train to be efficient in company requirements for standard repair times (SRT) and warranty guidelines
• Understand and effectively follow all shop safety procedures
• Maintain professional communication with JB Hunt personnel and customers at all times
• Train to become efficient in routine preventative maintenance, replacement of parts/components, basic repair as it pertains to air brake systems and FHWA Inspections

The expected starting pay range for this position is between $19 to $23.75.

Compensation

Factors which may affect starting pay within this range may include skills, education, experience, geography, and other qualifications of the successful candidate.

This position may be eligible for annual bonus and incentives based on profitability or volumes in accordance with the terms of the Company's bonus and incentive plans, as applicable and in effect from time to time.
