Job summary

Genesee & Wyoming Inc. is seeking a Track Machine Operator to join our on-site team in the Georgia region. The candidate will operate heavy equipment to build, repair, or maintain track, with a focus on safety and reliability.

A valid CDL Class A is required; prior railroad maintenance experience is preferred. We offer comprehensive benefits and paid training as part of a long-standing North American rail network.

Qualifications

  • Two years of verifiable experience operating heavy equipment or railroad maintenance-of-way equipment (e.g., grapple truck)
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot equipment problems
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written communication, both general and technical
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to sixty pounds
  • Ability to operate equipment in varying weather conditions

Responsibilities

SUMMARY:

The person in this position operates equipment as part of a crew to build, repair, or maintain track.

***Qualified candidate must have prior experience operating heavy equipment, and hold a valid CDL Class A.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Operate equipment in a safe and efficient manner in accordance with regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Perform equipment safety and maintenance checks
  • Report any and all defects or needed repairs to supervisor
  • Participate in job briefings and understand daily production goals
  • Perform preventative maintenance, minor repairs, and adjustments to equipment as needed
  • Fill out and maintain required regulatory forms
  • Promote a safe and drug-free working environment
  • Perform other duties as assigned such as but not limited to working as a Track Laborer

REQUIRED SKILLS AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • At least two years of verifiable experience operating heavy equipment OR railroad maintenance-of-way equipment (grapple truck as an example)
  • Ability to perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot equipment problems
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written communication, both general and technical
  • Ability to occasionally lift up to sixty pounds
  • Ability to operate equipment in varying working and weather conditions

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND/OR CREDENTIALS:

  • High school diploma, GED, or an equivalent combination of education and experience
  • ValidCommercial Driver's License (CDL) required, Class A

Employment Requirements:

  • Pre-employment physical, hearing, and vision medical review
  • May be subject to federally mandated drug and alcohol testing including pre-employment drug screening
  • Background screening including criminal and motor vehicle driving history

Relocation:

Must live within 50 miles of assigned location or be willing to relocate. Relocation assistance is not offered for this position.
