Job summary

Abbott is seeking a TPM Engineer to join the Core Labs Division in Irving, TX, working on-site daily to support the design, development, and testing of diagnostic products and processes.

You will apply engineering and statistical methods to solve technical challenges, build prototypes, and ensure quality and reliability across subsystems while collaborating with cross-functional teams to meet patient and customer needs.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering or closely related STEM field.
  • Minimum 3 years of relevant experience.
  • Engineering experience in product/process development and technical design.
  • Ability to apply statistics and analytical thinking.
  • Technical knowledge of subsystems, design protocols, and problem-solving tools.

Responsibilities

  • Provide engineering support to new and existing products, processes, prototypes, fixtures, and tools.
  • Apply engineering principles to evaluate and solve technical problems with guidance.
  • Support continuous quality improvement and lead projects as needed.
  • Design and evaluate product components to meet performance, quality, and reliability requirements.
  • Build and test prototypes, fixtures, and tools for development and research.
  • Analyze test results to identify improvements and reduce design risks.
  • Assist in selecting materials, components, and technologies for new products.
  • Troubleshoot product and process issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation, specifications, drawings, and test records.
  • Participate in design reviews and support engineering change activities.
  • Contribute to quality and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to ensure manufacturability and customer fit.
  • Stay updated with industry trends and new technologies to support innovation.

The Opportunity

The TPM Engineer will work out of our Core Labs Division in Abbott, location in the Irving TX area, on site daily. Our diagnostic solutions are used in hospitals, laboratories, and clinics around the globe. The crucial information derived from our tests, instruments, and informatics systems is often the first step in patient care decision-making for hundreds of health conditions from heart attacks to blood disorders to infectious diseases and cancers.

What You’ll Work On

Provides engineering support to new and existing products, processes, prototypes, fixtures, and tools.
Applies engineering and scientific principles to the evaluation and solution of technical problems with some guidance from
technical lead or manager.
Supports continuous quality improvement and may serve as technical lead for individual projects (component/subassembly).

In addition:
  • Support the design, development, and improvement of products, components, and manufacturing processes.

  • Help solve technical challenges by applying engineering principles and working with experienced team members.

  • Design and evaluate product components to ensure they meet performance, quality, and reliability requirements.

  • Build and test prototypes, fixtures, and tools used for product development and research.

  • Analyze test results and data to identify improvements and reduce design risks.

  • Assist in selecting materials, components, and technologies for new products.

  • Troubleshoot product and process issues and help implement effective solutions.

  • Create and maintain engineering documentation, specifications, drawings, and test records.

  • Participate in product design reviews and support engineering change activities.

  • Contribute to quality and continuous improvement initiatives.

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure products can be efficiently manufactured and meet customer needs.

  • Stay current with industry trends and new technologies to support innovation.

  • Troubleshoots, investigates and resolves problems involving techniques, materials, equipment, part and sub-assembly design;
    documents justification or rationale as needed.

  • Identifies and mitigates sub-assembly risks.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or closely related STEM field 3 An equivalent combination of education and work experience

  • Minimum 3 years Relevant Experience.

  • Engineering experience in product / process development and technical design.

  • Ability to apply statistics and analytical thinking.

  • Technical knowledge and expertise of subsystems, design protocols, and problem-solving tools.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ability to apply statistics and analytical thinking.

  • Mechanical Engineers are preferred applicants for this role due to the expertise required.

  • Effective time management and prioritization skills.

  • Strong written & verbal communication skill

  • Demonstrated experience working in a team environment.

  • SolidWorks CAD model experience of at least 2 years.

  • Six Sigma project experience is a plus

  • Experience with hardware development projects is a plus.

  • Design knowledge is a plus.

The base pay for this position is

$61,300.00 – $122,700.00

In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
