  • Prepares postmortem and antemortem samples for alcohol/drug testing using LC-MS/MS and GC/MS.
  • Makes and verifies reagent solutions for calibration and quality control.
  • Processes and reviews LC-MS/MS and GC/MS data for drug analysis panels.
  • Performs and analyzes clinical and forensic casework.
  • Ensures compliance with laboratory regulations and quality control.
  • Maintains records and generates reports; coordinates supply orders.
  • Provides expert testimony in court.

Job Summary

Under supervision, perform forensic and clinical testing utilizing complex analysis of biological materials and statistical analyses of data.

Job Responsibilities and Requirements
Primary Responsibilities
  • Accessions received samples into system and assigns appropriate testing while identifying unique characteristics.
  • Prepares postmortem and antemortem blood, urine, tissue, and vitreous samples for the presence of alcohol and/or drugs using multiple techniques including but not limited to liquid-liquid extraction for compound analysis.
  • Makes and verifies reagent solutions for calibration and quality control.
  • Processes and reviews analytical LC/MS/MS and GC/MS data on screen and confirmatory/quantitative drug analysis panels.
  • Performs and analyzes all clinical and forensic casework.
  • Troubleshoots and resolves any issues with assays and laboratory equipment.
  • Ensures compliance with laboratory regulations.
  • Assists in the performance of quality control testing and in the establishment of clinical research projects for the lab; consults on test results with other staff members.
  • Reconciles clinical urine drug screen results with patient history and other toxicology testing results.
  • Maintains accurate records, performs statistical analysis of research data and generates reports.
  • Places inventory orders and coordinates the delivery of laboratory supplies.
  • Provides expert testimony in court.
  • Works in a constant state of alertness and safe manner.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Education
  • Bachelor\'s degree in Biological Science, Forensic Science or related field

Physical Requirements
  • Frequent lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 0-25 lbs.
  • Frequent sitting, standing, walking, reaching and repetitive foot/leg and hand/arm movements.
  • Frequent use of vision and depth perception for distances near (20 inches or less) and far (20 feet or more) and to identify and distinguish colors.
  • Frequent use of hearing and speech to share information through oral communication. Ability to hear alarms, malfunctioning machinery, etc.
  • Frequent keyboard use/data entry.
  • Occasional bending, stooping, kneeling, squatting, twisting and gripping.
  • Occasional lifting/carrying and pushing/pulling objects weighing 25-50 lbs.
  • Rare climbing.
