Job Summary

The Town of Benson has an immediate opening for an Electric Distribution Line Technician I in its Electric Department. The anticipated hiring range is $80,000 - $94,000, dependent on qualifications. If you have proven leadership skills, the ability to identify and solve problems, and advanced experience with electrical distribution systems, including AMI, apply with us today. We need a driven individual to lead and perform technical work regarding all aspects of the electrical distribution system, including construction, maintenance, and repair of underground and overhead electric lines. As a key team member, you will independently perform secondary and primary high voltage line work, provide guidance to less experienced workers, inspect work quality, assure compliance with safety rules and regulations, and train other line workers. Carry out these duties while working close to home and providing a valuable service to the local community.

Primary Responsibilities

In your duties as Electric Distribution Line Technician I, you will lead and participate in installing power line poles, stringing lines, making emergency repairs during electric power outages, and completing other related duties as required. Examples of these duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Operating bucket equipment.
  • Trimming and disposing of tree limbs using the bucket truck and saws.
  • Installing metering equipment.
  • Installing transformers, fuse cutouts, and regulators.
  • Making energized line taps and connecting wires.

The position reports to the Electric Distribution System Superintendent and requires frequent on-call and call-back responsibilities.

Job Requirements

• Graduation from high school supplemented by training in electrical principles and considerable experience at the electric line technician – first class level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

• Possession of a valid North Carolina Class A commercial driver’s license.
