Cox Automotive - USA is seeking a Tow Truck Driver I (DOT) to operate tow trucks and a front-end loader on auction sites and other Cox locations. The role requires a strong safety mindset, valid CDL, and DOT readiness, with potential for additional compensation.

The candidate will move vehicles, perform basic maintenance, and assist in loading/unloading operations while ensuring compliance with all safety policies. Day shifts with no remote option are offered at specified Cox locations.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED and 5 years’ experience in a related field.
  • Or HS + degree/certification with 3 years’ related experience.
  • Or 7 years’ related field experience.
  • Safe drivers required; valid driver’s license.
  • Pre-hire DOT physical required.
  • Completion of DOT Driver Qualification file.
  • Valid Class C CDL preferred.
  • Rollback tow truck experience.
  • 1–3 years’ experience driving tow truck or frontend loader.
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to walk long distances.
  • Vision includes color vision and depth perception.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a tow truck to provide tow service on the auction lot and in other locations.
  • Operate a front-end loader for loading/unloading and moving vehicles.
  • Attach tow equipment properly to vehicles to prevent damage.
  • Haul vehicles to directed areas in a safe, courteous manner.
  • Scan towed vehicles with the TC75 to the delivery location.
  • Assist with towing and jump-starting vehicle batteries as needed.
  • Unlock vehicles or locate using Lot Vision when appropriate.
  • Tow vehicles to the Mechanic shop as requested.
  • Remove improperly parked or unsafe vehicles from lots.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks on tow truck and loader.
  • Follow safety regulations and participate in safety activities.
  • May work overtime as business needs dictate.

Hourly base pay rate is $18.17 - $27.31/hour. The hourly base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate’s knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or an incentive program.

  • Operates a tow truck to provide tow service to customer vehicles on the auction lot and in different locations as needed.
  • Operates a front-end loader to provide a loading and unloading service for the customers. As well as move vehicles around the lot for auction shops.
  • Properly affix tow truck and front-end loader to vehicle needing tow, assuring that the vehicle will not be damaged or cause any danger to others in the towing process. Releases vehicle from the tow truck and assures that vehicle is left in a safe, immobile manner.
  • In a safe and courteous manner, hauls vehicles to directed areas.
  • Scans every towed vehicle using the TC75 to the location where the vehicle has been delivered.
  • Assists employees and customers with towing and jump-starting vehicle battery, as requested via phone or in person.
  • As appropriate, assist in unlocking customer vehicles, jump-starting, or locating using Lot Vision.
  • Tows vehicles requiring towing service to the Mechanic shop as requested.
  • Removes customer and employee vehicles parked incorrectly or in an unsafe manner to customer lot as requested.
  • Performs routine maintenance checks on tow truck and front-end loader to have (i.e., oil changes, lubes, filter changes, tire changes).
  • Operate truck and front-end loader in compliance with safety regulations.
  • May assist lot operations when not operating tow truck and in sale day activities.
  • Visibly demonstrate safety commitment by following all safety and health procedures and modeling the behaviors related to such. Actively participate in support of all safety activities aligned with Safety Excellence.
  • Run reports to move vehicles into the sale TRA area for auction.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
  • May be required to work overtime as business needs dictate.
Qualifications:
Minimum-
  • High School Diploma/GED and 5 years’ experience in a related field.
  • OR the right candidate could also have a different combination, such as any level degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline and 3 years’ experience;
  • OR 7 years’ experience in a related field.
  • Safe drivers needed; valid driver’s license required.
  • Pre-hire Physical needed for DOT medical card.
  • Completion of DOT Driver Qualification file.
  • Valid Class C CDL preferred.
  • Rollback tow truck experience.
  • 1 – 3 years of experience driving a service/tow truck or frontend loader
  • Ability to sit for prolonged periods of time.
  • Ability to walk long distances.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, reach, talk and hear.
  • Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, squat, and climb.
  • Ability to lift 1-30 pounds.
  • Vision abilities required include close, distance and color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment:
  • Frequent exposure to outdoor weather conditions. Moderate noise level. Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts and electrical shock hazard.
