Job summary

Cox Automotive is seeking a Tow Truck Operator in Dallas. You will operate a tow truck and a front-end loader to move vehicles on the DALA lot and at auction locations, ensuring vehicle safety and proper placement.

You may assist with jump-starts, unlocks, and moving vehicles as required by auction operations. The role requires a high school diploma or GED with 3 years of related heavy equipment experience, or an equivalent certification/degree, plus a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED and 3 years' experience in a related field (operating heavy equipment).
  • Or a combination including any level degree/certification beyond HS diploma/GED in a related discipline.
  • Or 5 years' experience in a related field.
  • Ability to pass OSHA forklift/heavy equipment certification program with recertification every 3 years.
  • Safe drivers required; valid driver's license is mandatory.
  • Effective communication and organization skills are required.
  • Commitment to providing excellent customer service is essential.
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, reach, talk and hear.
  • Frequently required to stoop, kneel, crouch, bend, squat, and climb.
  • Ability to spend prolonged periods of time sitting in the cab of forklift/ loader.
  • Vision abilities include close, distance, and color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.
  • Ability to remain focused and vigilant regarding surroundings and hazards on lot.

Responsibilities

  • Operate a tow truck to provide tow service on the DALA parking lot and nearby locations.
  • Operate a front-end loader to load/unload vehicles and move them around the lot for auctions.
  • Securely attach tow equipment to vehicles to prevent damage during towing.
  • Haul vehicles safely to directed areas and assist with jump-starts and unlocking vehicles as needed.
  • Scan towed vehicles using TC75 to track delivery locations.
  • Perform routine maintenance checks on tow truck and loader.
  • Assist in lot operations and sale-day activities as needed.
  • Demonstrate safety practices and participate in safety programs.

Tow Truck Operator

Schedule: Tuesday- Saturday (8am-5pm/9am-6pm)

  • Operates a tow truck to provide tow service to customer vehicles on the DALA parking lot and in different locations as needed.
  • Operates a front-end loader to provide a loading and unloading service for the customers. As well as move vehicles around the lot for auction shops.
  • Properly affixes tow truck and front-end loader to vehicle needing tow, assuring that the vehicle will not be damaged or cause any danger to others in the towing process.
  • In a safe and courteous manner, hauls vehicles to directed areas.
  • Scans every towed vehicle using the TC75 to the location where the vehicle has been delivered.
  • Assists employees and customers with towing and jump-starting vehicle battery, as requested via phone or in person.
  • As appropriate, assist in unlocking customer vehicles, jump-starting, or locating using Lot Vision.
  • Tows vehicles requiring towing service to the Mechanic shop as requested.
  • Removes customer and employee vehicles parked incorrectly or in unsafe manner to customer lot as requested.
  • Performs routine maintenance checks on tow truck and front-end loader to have (i.e., oil changes, lubes, filter changes, tire changes).
  • Operate truck and front-end loader in compliance with safety regulations.
  • May assist lot operations when not operating tow truck and in sale day activities.
  • Visibly demonstrate safety commitment by following all safety and health procedures and modeling the behaviors related to such. Actively participate in support of all safety activities aligned with Safety Excellence.
  • Run reports to move vehicles into the sale TRA area for auction.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Education & Specialized Knowledge
  • Minimum:
  • High School Diploma/GED and 3 years' experience in a related field (operating heavy equipment).
  • OR the right candidate could also have a different combination, such as any level degree/certification beyond a HS diploma/GED in a related discipline.
  • OR 5 years' experience in a related field
  • Ability to pass OSHA forklift/heavy equipment certification program with recertification Knowledge every 3 years
  • Safe drivers needed; valid driver's license required.

Preferred
  • Experience on a wheel lift and some forklift experience
  • Basic computer skills and the ability to utilize a portable terminal, brick, etc. preferred.

USD 18.17 - 27.31 per hour

Compensation:

Hourly pay rate is in the range of $18.17 - $27.31/hour. The hourly base rate may vary within the anticipated range based on factors such as the ultimate location of the position and the selected candidate's knowledge, skills, and abilities. Position may be eligible for additional compensation that may include commission (annual, monthly, etc.) and/or an incentive program.

Benefits:

Employees are eligible to receive a minimum of sixteen hours of paid time off every month and seven paid holidays throughout the calendar year. Employees are also eligible for additional paid time off in the form of bereavement leave, time off to vote, jury duty leave, volunteer time off, military leave, and parental leave.
