As a hands‑on engineering manager, you will lead store technology delivery and operations, turning business needs into reliable software and smooth store operations. You will coordinate with Store Operations, product owners, data analysts, and cross‑functional teams to enhance omnichannel experiences.

Responsibilities

The typical day involves a mix of leadership and technical tasks:

• Own store technology delivery and operations. Lead feature development and on‑call for POS, clienteling, store reporting, and payments; run incident/root cause analysis and harden releases.
• Launch and scale new stores and relocations. Partner with Retail Ops to stage POS devices and payment terminals, ensuring configuration, integrations, security, and acceptance tests are complete before doors open.
• Integrate payments and clienteling platforms to deliver frictionless checkout and associate workflows.
• Enable omnichannel store experiences. Coordinate with OMS and eCommerce teams to support BOPIS, ship‑from‑store, and remote selling while tracking store‑level SLAs and inventory accuracy.
• Measure and improve system performance through dashboards for latency, error budgets, device health, and store uptime; prioritize backlogs with data.

Technical Skills

• Proficiency in a modern programming language such as Java or JavaScript (or equivalent).
• Experience with distributed systems and microservices powering store and edge scenarios.
• Hands‑on experience managing POS systems and clienteling apps, including device provisioning, release management, and ERP/CRM integrations.
• Strong knowledge of relational databases and messaging/event streaming patterns for store‑to‑cloud sync.
• Proficiency with instrumentation, telemetry, and observability for store apps and devices (dashboards, alerts, SLOs).
• Practical understanding of retail operations and omnichannel, including dependencies on OMS and inventory accuracy.
• Familiarity with payments (terminal management, gateway integrations) and modern clienteling platforms.
• Experience adopting AI‑assisted development tools and applying AI/ML to store and clienteling scenarios, responsibly integrating model APIs into POS or clienteling workflows.

Leadership Skills

• Clear cross‑functional communication and ability to translate store realities into engineering priorities.
• Willingness to roll up sleeves – participate in incident bridges, review logs/telemetry, or test devices prior to launches.
• Comfort with ambiguity and leading cross‑functional program execution.
• Ability to set clear objectives, unblock delivery, and maintain quality while meeting retail calendars.

Benefits

Compensation range: $150,000.00 – $190,000.00 USD, based on experience and location. All employees working over 30 hours receive a generous benefits package that includes health, dental, vision, financial security, wellness programs, and employee discounts.
