Job summary

Bowhead seeks a Linux Systems Administrator to join our team in Dahlgren, VA. The Linux Administrator is responsible for system administration and customer support of servers and workstations in an RDT&E environment.

Responsibilities include problem solving, managing servers and workstations in classified and unclassified networks, planning hardware, and collaborating with scientists to enable computation-intensive work. Must maintain Top Secret clearance and US citizenship.

Qualifications

  • Minimum of four to six years demonstrated experience in Linux-based system administration.
  • Well-developed Linux system management skills.
  • Experience with HP and Dell hardware.
  • Must meet DoD 8570 Cybersecurity Work Force criteria or IAT II at hire.
  • Experience in environments with rapidly changing priorities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide technical problem solving and in-depth consulting for system operations.
  • Administer and manage servers, end-user workstations, and potentially clustered systems in unclassified and classified networks.
  • Analyze, design, and implement modifications to system software to improve performance or fulfill needs.
  • Plan hardware acquisitions, develop operating policy, interact with vendors, educate customers, and collaborate with other projects.
  • Work with scientists and engineers to help them use workstations and servers for computation-intensive problems.
  • Support individual user workstations and related software.
  • Assist with application installation, licenses management, software tracking/distribution, and backup/recovery of configurations and data.
