Job summary

Valaris is seeking a seasoned Toolpusher to lead the drilling department, ensuring safe and efficient execution of well programs offshore. The role requires strong planning, supervision, and hands-on mentoring of crew competencies and tickets.

The candidate will coordinate with clients, maintain safety practices, and oversee barrier integrity and emergency procedures, delivering reliable results in demanding offshore environments.

Qualifications

  • Ten years of rig experience including two years as Toolpusher.
  • Completion of training and certification requirements for Toolpusher per Valaris matrix.

Responsibilities

  • Lead drilling operations planning for goals and objectives to meet QHSE standards.
  • Ensure operations are planned, organized, supervised, and executed per well programs and plans.
  • Identify hazards, implement controls, and act as Barrier Authority under VMS to manage major hazards.
  • Mentor crews, provide feedback, and ensure competencies and tickets are current.
  • Communicate daily handovers to OIM/Master and maintain open communication across crews and clients.

Job description

Performs all work according to agreed expectations of both internal and external customers, focus on doing things right the first time, and contributes actively to continual improvement activities.

Acts as a safety leader ensuring the ongoing identification of hazards and the implementation of controls to manage the associated risks.

Leads the drilling department in the planning of goals and objectives for QHSE.

Ensures operations are planned, organized, supervised, and executed in accordance with well programs, rig move plans, company requirements, and contractual obligations.

Participates in operational daily meetings; reviews the last 24 hours, previews the next 24/72 hours, and plans for future operations with regards to equipment, personnel, and logistics requirements.

Promotes and maintains a good working relationship with client representatives onboard.

Maintains hygiene and housekeeping onboard to Valaris standards with a particular focus on escape routes.

Organizes and supervises the activities of the drilling department and ensures Valaris workinstructions are understood and observed by all crews.

Ensures all rig/deck crews have the necessary competencies, training, and skills to perform their tasks (i.e. through regular mentoring, appraisal and feedback to direct reports).

Supervises all preventive maintenance or maintenance repairs occurring on drilling equipment.

Plans and coordinates well control drills and ensures well control emergency procedures and responses are fully implemented and crew competencies/tickets are valid and current.

Creates an environment in which open communications can occur within all departments, with all senior/junior crews as well as clients and third parties as required.

Clearly and accurately communicates daily to OIM/Master and provides detailed handover at the end of shift and the end of hitch.

As an identified Barrier Authority (BA) under the Valaris Management System (VMS), integral to the management and control of Major Accident Hazards/Process Safety Risks. Responsible for the thorough and timely completion of assigned barrier integrity verification activities, as prescribed under VMS, for the assessment of associated deficiencies and, if applicable taking mitigating or corrective actions to the best of their competency, knowledge and ability.

Qualifications / Experience

Ten (10) years rig experience including two (2) years’ proven experience as a Toolpusher.

Completion of all training and certification requirements for Toolpusher position as described in the Valaris training matrix.
