Tooling Technician | Crafting and Maintaining Aviation Infrastructure

Location: Kinston, NC 28504 | On-site

Job Type: Full-Time, Contract

Schedule: Monday-Friday

Pay Rate: $32.14/hour

We are seeking a skilled Tooling Technician to join a premier aviation organization. This role is perfect for a professional with mechanical aptitude and a sharp eye for detail who is ready to support high-level manufacturing processes.

You will be responsible for the upkeep, repair, and calibration of specialized equipment essential to aerostructure production. By managing everything from complex molds to precision fixtures, your technical contributions will ensure the integrity and efficiency of our aircraft manufacturing output.

What You'll Do

Your daily responsibilities will include:

  • Disassemble, transport, install, and restore industrial equipment by following technical drawings, blueprints, and verbal guidance.
  • Ensure the reliability of precision jigs, molds, fixtures, and tooling used in aerostructure production through consistent maintenance and calibration.
  • Perform necessary rework and upkeep on tools constructed from diverse industrial materials.
  • Repair and fabricate lay-up tools to help maintain seamless production workflows.
  • Utilize manual tools like wrenches, hammers, and crowbars to dismantle machinery components.
  • Operate hoists, dollies, rollers, trucks, and overhead gantry cranes to safely relocate heavy machinery.
  • Install and assemble equipment such as tram rails and conveyors using power and hand tools.
  • Establish solid foundations, perform machinery alignment, and execute routine inspections to ensure operational safety.
  • Operate fabrication machinery and machine tools to manufacture new components or modify existing parts.
  • Conduct root cause analysis to help improve equipment reliability and overall production efficiency.
  • Partner with vendors, engineering, and management to troubleshoot complex issues and develop effective corrective actions.
  • Execute minor maintenance tasks, such as lubricating parts, changing filters, and performing other preventive measures to keep equipment running smoothly.
  • Maintain a safe and organized workspace by adhering to safety, quality, FOD, clean-as-you-go, and OSHA standards.
  • Record work activities accurately and access technical data through internal computer systems.
Required Qualifications

We are looking for candidates who possess:

  • High School Diploma/GED or completion of a WorkKeys Assessment
  • 3+ years of experience in aerospace tooling or precision machining
  • Proficiency in interpreting GD&T blueprints
  • Hands-on experience with fixtures, jigs, molds, or precision tooling
  • Experience operating laser trackers, overhead gantry cranes, and hydraulic systems
  • Competency with a wide range of power and hand tools
  • Ability to interpret technical instructions, layouts, and blueprints
  • Commitment to workplace safety and quality protocols, including clean-as-you-go and FOD standards
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English
  • Ability to articulate complex technical information clearly
  • Strong interpersonal skills to foster effective team collaboration
  • Ability to handle sensitive information with complete confidentiality
  • Ability to meet U.S. person/ITAR requirements

Preferred Qualifications

  • Vocational or technical school training focused on equipment maintenance, tooling, or industrial machinery
  • Previous training in the installation, repair, and relocation of industrial equipment
  • Extensive experience in fabricating or repairing aerospace-grade tooling
  • Experience utilizing computerized systems for technical data retrieval and entry
  • Working knowledge of SAP and Microsoft Excel
  • Experience contributing to corrective action initiatives and tooling reliability

Pay Details: $32.14 per hour
