Job summary

Unison, a GE Aerospace Company, in St. George, Utah, is seeking a Tooling Engineer to design, develop, and maintain tooling, fixtures, and related equipment for manufacturing and assembly operations.

You will work with production, quality, design, and supply chain teams to ensure safe, high-quality, repeatable, and cost-effective tooling, applying GD&T and machining knowledge, with Lean practices on-site in St. George.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
  • 3–5 years tooling/manufacturing engineering or mechanical design experience.
  • Proficiency with CAD software such as NX, CATIA, SolidWorks, or similar.
  • Strong GD&T, tolerancing, and basic mechanical/stress knowledge.
  • Knowledge of machining, fabrication, and manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with structured problem-solving and root cause analysis.
  • Effective cross-functional communication across production, quality, design, and supply chain.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and support tooling to enable safe, efficient, and repeatable manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate with production, quality, design, and supply chain teams to identify tooling needs and implement effective solutions.
  • Apply sound engineering principles to tooling concepts and designs, including GD&T, tolerancing, and basic mechanical/stress considerations.
  • Support tooling development through manufacturing process knowledge, including machining, fabrication, and related production methods.
  • Drive structured problem-solving and root cause analysis using methods such as 5-Why and fishbone diagrams.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by identifying opportunities to enhance safety, quality, delivery, and cost.
  • Help establish and maintain standard work and support lean manufacturing practices within the production environment.

The Tooling Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and maintaining tools, fixtures, jigs, and related equipment that support our manufacturing and assembly operations.

This role ensures that tooling enables safe, high-quality, repeatable, and cost-effective production, and provides direct technical support to the shop floor.

Roles and Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, and support tooling solutions to enable safe, efficient, and repeatable manufacturing processes.
  • Collaborate with production, quality, design, and supply chain teams to identify tooling needs and implement effective solutions.
  • Apply sound engineering principles to tooling concepts and designs, including consideration of GD&T, tolerancing, and basic mechanical/stress requirements.
  • Support tooling development through manufacturing process knowledge, including machining, fabrication, and related production methods.
  • Drive structured problem-solving and root cause analysis using tools such as 5-Why and fishbone methodology.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
  • 3–5 years of experience in tooling, manufacturing engineering, or mechanical design within a production environment.
  • Proficiency with CAD software such as NX, CATIA, SolidWorks, or similar platforms.
  • Strong understanding of GD&T, tolerancing, and basic mechanical/stress considerations.
  • Knowledge of machining, fabrication, and other manufacturing processes.
  • Experience with structured problem-solving and root cause analysis methodologies.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to work cross-functionally across production, quality, design, and supply chain teams.
Desired Characteristics
  • Experience in aerospace, high-precision, or other highly regulated manufacturing environments.
  • Exposure to lean manufacturing, continuous improvement (Kaizen), and standard work practices.
  • Familiarity with PFMEA or similar risk analysis methods.
  • Experience working with automation, PLC-controlled equipment, or advanced manufacturing technologies.
  • Strong safety focus in tooling concepts and designs.
  • Quality mindset with a bias toward robust, repeatable solutions.
  • Customer-focused approach in supporting internal customers, including operators, production leaders, and program teams.
  • Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • Continuous improvement mindset, with a willingness to challenge the status quo.
  • This position is on-site in St. George Utah
