Job summary

AISIN North Carolina Corporation is seeking a Tooling Engineer to analyze and enhance tooling processes to support overall tooling strategies and improve tool life and cut efficiency. The role focuses on regrind programming, workflow implementation, tool wear tracking, and documentation of process changes for continuous improvement.

Responsibilities include training teammates on new regrind methods, establishing inspection regimes for reground tools, and coordinating with Regrind GL/TM to boost

Qualifications

  • Minimum 2 years in an engineering role.
  • Strong knowledge of tooling processes.
  • Understanding of PFMEA, statistics, and root cause analysis.
  • Proven troubleshooting in an engineering context.

Responsibilities

  • Create programs to regrind used round tools (drills, reamers, end mills) for carbide/PCD to ensure tool quality and low cycle time.
  • Develop Tool Regrind Workflow to prevent mix-ups; train team on new regrinding processes.
  • Create system to inspect and record tool wear for accuracy and efficiency.
  • Generate Regrind Inspection Reports for all regrind tools.
  • Train team to adjust processes for consistent reground tool quality.
  • Install measurement programs on inspection machines for new products; read gear measurement reports.
  • Collaborate with Regrind GL, TM to monitor daily productivity and improvement.
  • Evaluate new tooling for performance status and record changes.

Job description

The Tooling Engineer will analyze and investigate current tooling processes to support the overall tooling strategies. In addition, Tooling Engineer will support current production needs and look to improve current tool life and cut efficiency.

Position Responsibilities

The incumbent is expected to perform the following functions that the company has determined are essential to this position:

  • Create programs to regrind used round tools such as drills, reamers, end mills, etc. for carbide and PCD material to ensure tool quality & lowest cycle time.
  • Develop “Tool Regrind Workflow” system to ensure reground quality and to foolproof no skipping and mixing drills for each plant. Train team members in Tool Regrind Workflow and new regrinding processes.
  • Develop system to inspect and record tool wear for each used tool to increase tool accuracy and efficiency.
  • Create Regrind Inspection Report for all regrind tools.
  • Train team members to make proper adjustments to achieve reground tool quality.
  • Support gear products such as making programs/inspections for new products. Install measurement programs to inspection machines for new products. Train team members how to read and understand gear measurement reports.
  • Work with Regrind GL, TM to monitor and improve daily productivity.
  • Responsible for ensuring that new tooling is accurately evaluated and analyzed for performance status.
  • Implement kaizens to improve tooling metrics.
  • Reduction of tooling cost.
  • Create documentation for changes to processes and equipment.

Required Skills and Abilities

Essential Skills and Experience:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in an engineering role.
  • Strong demonstratable skills and knowledge of tooling processes.
  • Understand PFMEA, Statistical probability, and root cause analysis.
  • Demonstrated trouble shooting/problem solving experience in an engineering role.

Education/Training/Certifications

  • BS/Engineering or equivalent experience.
