Job summary

Nelson Global Products Inc. is seeking an experienced tooling designer to design and develop fixtures, jigs and tooling for fabrication processes in Indianapolis.

You will create 2D drawings and 3D CAD models and work closely with manufacturing, maintenance and quality teams to implement practical tooling solutions. The role requires strong CAD skills (SolidWorks/AutoCAD), a mindset for continuous improvement, adherence to safety standards, and effective on-floor troubleshooting.

Qualifications

• Proficiency in 2D drawings and 3D CAD modeling for tooling and fixtures.
• Experience with SolidWorks or AutoCAD to create detailed designs.
• Ability to specify materials and processes for tooling fabrication.
• Collaboration with manufacturing, maintenance and quality teams.
• Familiarity with revision control and documentation practices.
• Troubleshooting on-floor issues and providing rapid support.
• Adherence to safety standards and industry best practices.
• Support lean manufacturing and continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop tooling, jigs, and fixtures for fabrication, welding, assembly, and machining.
• Create detailed 2D drawings and 3D CAD models using SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar.
• Collaborate with manufacturing, maintenance, and quality teams to identify tooling needs.
• Review and improve tooling designs for performance, durability, and ease of use.
• Specify materials, components, and processes for tooling fabrication.
• Coordinate with suppliers and internal teams to ensure timely tooling builds.
• Support continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.
• Maintain documentation and revision control for tooling designs.
• Troubleshoot performance issues and provide on-floor support during implementation.
• Ensure all designs comply with safety standards and industry best practices.
