Job summary

Caterpillar is seeking an engineer to design, develop, and implement foundry tooling in Hodges, SC. You will collaborate with design engineers and the tooling shop to resolve quality and leadership actions through construction, implementation, and validation phases.

The role emphasizes experience with cast iron foundry tooling, material research, prototype testing, supplier development, and documenting functional requirements while contributing to buy-build analyses and technical reports.

About Large Power Systems Division (LPSD):

We design and manufacture the most comprehensive lineup of large diesel and natural gas engines in the industry, as well as engine components and powertrains.

Job Summary:

Designs, develops, builds, and implements foundry tooling. Working with design engineer and the tooling shop to resolve actions from quality and leadership following the construction of the tooling with the tooling shop along with implementation and validation phases.

What you will do:
  • Experience with cast iron foundry tooling designing
  • Researching new materials and competitive products. Organizing, coordinating, and executing the building, testing, and analysis of prototypes.
  • Assisting supply specialists and buyers with supplier development and supplier performance. Overseeing the efforts of drafting and testing specialists.
  • Developing and documenting functional requirements and translating into detail design documents. Participating in buy-build analysis for product components.
  • Participating in and supporting proposal preparation, cost estimates, and technical reports.
Education:

Degree required in accredited Engineering or Materials Science curriculum.

Skills you must have:
  • Analytical Thinking: Working knowledge of techniques and tools that promote effective analysis; ability to determine the root cause of organizational problems and create alternative solutions that resolve these problems.
  • Managing Multiple Priorities: Working knowledge of effective self-management practices; ability to manage multiple concurrent objectives, projects, groups, or activities, making effective judgments as to prioritizing and time allocation.
  • Technical Excellence: Working knowledge of a given technology and various application methods; ability to develop and provide solutions to significant technical challenges.
  • Computer-Aided Design & Engineering: Working knowledge of tools and techniques of specialized graphics programs; ability to produce, analyze, simulate and test product design drafts.
  • Product Design - MFG: Working knowledge of processes, approaches, tools and techniques of product design; ability to convert customer and market requirements into product design.
  • Product Design and Development: Working knowledge of product features; ability to design, build, and develop a new product, technology, or service from concept through to production.
Top candidates will also have:
  • Experience in Magmasoft or Solidcast is a plus
  • Knowledge of no bake process and coldbox
  • Horizontal and vertical molding process experience
  • Foundry defect resolution
  • Foundry process knowledge
  • Previous experience in Creo

Summary Pay Range:

$89,210.00 - $133,810.00

Compensation and benefits offered may vary depending on multiple individualized factors, job level, market location, job-related knowledge, skills, individual performance and experience. Please note that salary is only one component of total compensation at Caterpillar.
