Job summary

Relativity Space in California is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to design and develop tooling and factory automation equipment that support Terran R production. You will work closely with Design and Manufacturing to translate requirements into functional, automated tooling on a highly automated production floor.

You’ll apply CAD and FEA to innovate, tackle diverse technical challenges, and collaborate with engineers across teams to deliver safe, cost-effective solutions on schedule.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in manufacturing engineering or mechanical engineering or equivalent.
• 2+ years of work or project experience with design, build and commissioning of tooling and fixtures for manufacturing, assembly and test.
• Experience using CAD and FEA-based analysis software (NX and ANSYS Workbench preferred) for structural applications.

Responsibilities

• Develop high quality development and production tooling and automation solutions for the Terran vehicle and Aeon engine programs.
• Capable of integrating concepts and principles of mechanical design and analysis of several different projects in a fast-paced environment.
• Ability to interpret and apply sound design and drafting standards (ASME Y14.5) in creating tooling drawing definitions.
• Handle a wide range of technical problems and familiar with material handling, assembly fixtures, test fixtures, and related equipment.
• Collaborate with component designers, manufacturing engineers, and integration engineering to optimize cradle-to-grave metrics (safety, cost, quality, cycle time, delivery, reliability).
• Manage projects including vendor selection, fabrication, inspection, equipment installation, and commissioning of tooling.
