Job summary

Morrison Products, Inc. is seeking a Die Maintenance Supervisor to plan and execute preventive and corrective die maintenance, overseeing tool room activities in Dallas. You will schedule inspections, requisition parts, and ensure compliance with safety and quality standards.

The role includes training production operators, coordinating with suppliers, and maintaining tooling documentation. Local travel to other plants and suppliers may be required.

Qualifications

  • Over 3 years up to and including 5 years of experience.
  • Journeyman status in a specialized or technical field.
  • Strong communication skills (verbal and written).
  • Self-starter with ability to train and supervise others.

Responsibilities

  • Recommend changes to production dies and ensure proper tooling drawings documentation.

  • Maintain records and reports to support die maintenance programs.

Job description

Responsible for the repair and maintenance of Dallas dies and tools. Responsible for efficient and effective set up of all major dies. Plan and execute preventative and corrective die maintenance programs, schedule inspections and overhaul dies and tools. Requisition tools, equipment and supplies as required within approved budget. Identify critical items and recommend purchase of spare parts. Inspect completed die repair work for conformance to specifications. Responsible for maintaining good employee morale and working within the scope of contracts and policies and procedures. Train employees in the safe and proper operation of tools and equipment.

Primary Responsibilities:

1. Plan and arrange die maintenance activities for the most effective utilization of labor, material, equipment and minimal production interference.

2. Generate requisitions required for supplies to support die maintenance activities on a timely and cost effective basis so work can be performed with required supplies available. Utilize MLS system to maintain accurate inventory and supplier information.

3. Make recommendations to the Tooling Coordinator regarding changes to production dies to ensure proper documentation on the tooling drawings.

5. Handle specific set up questions and problems.

6. Assist in the instruction and training of production operators in correct and proper use of tools, dies and equipment when requested.

7. Inspect equipment and facilities for proper operation, safety devices, precautions and markings. Detect and eliminate hazards by working with appropriate supervisors.

8. Prepare and keep necessary records, reports and files as required to support die maintenance and set‑up programs utilizing MLS system as specified and practical.

9. Responsible to project and function in a manner wherein users of services feel free to request and discuss die and tool performance problems. Be service minded.

10. Interact with shop floor data collection system.

11. Review processes and make recommendations for process improvements.

12. Responsible for keeping current with grades and types of tool steels – their properties and uses.

13. Evaluate equipment for suitability to our processes.

14. Responsible for keeping familiar with heat treating – changes in steel properties it creates and production situations where these properties are desired.

15. Open and navigate tooling drawing software files in both SolidWorks and AutoCAD.

16. Work with outside suppliers and contractors to coordinate completion of projects.

17. Perform training with operators on issues like die set‑up, die adjustment, safety and other related topics.

Supervisory Responsibility:

1. Train and supervise employees who report to the Tool Room. Instruct as to methods, performance expected safety practices and other matters affecting their work.

2. Directly supervise assigned personnel in the operation of various equipment and machinery such as:

  • Lathes
  • Crane
  • Grinders
  • Lift truck
  • Cut off and band saws
  • Drill presses
  • Punch Presses
  • Various hand tools
  • Measuring equipment

3. Assist, as requested, in the instruction and training of set up employees.

4. Administer responsibilities toward subordinates in a “coaching style” consistent with plant, local, state and other governmental rules and guidelines.

5. Enforce all Company rules and regulations relative to discipline, attendance and expected personal conduct codes.

6. At prescribed intervals, perform a formal review of subordinates. Document these reviews using the appropriate MPI forms.

7. Make recommendations regarding personnel matters affecting subordinates.

Travel:

Local travel is required. Required to travel to other plants, training seminars and suppliers. Travel to customer locations may be required.

Confidentiality:

Employee has access to die drawings. Handles personnel and salary information of directly reporting employees.

Experience Required:

Over 3 years up to and including 5 years.

Education Required:

Journey status in a specialized or technical field.

Other:

Good communication skills, both verbal and written.
