Job summary

OTTO Engineering is seeking a Tool Room Supervisor in Illinois to lead a team responsible for building, repairing, and maintaining progressive tooling used in stamping operations. You will collaborate with Engineering and Production to maximize tooling performance and minimize downtime.

Ideal candidates have 10+ years in Tool and Die, 3+ years supervising, and strong knowledge of progressive die design and inspection. Overtime may be required; competitive hourly pay and benefits offered.

Qualifications

• 10+ years of Tool and Die experience
• Stamping production experience required
• Minimum 3 years in a supervisory role
• Knowledge of progressive die design
• Knowledge of SPC
• Ability to lift 50 lbs with assistance
• Ability to use various inspection equipment
• Knowledge of tool steels and stamping materials
• Willingness for mandatory overtime or non-standard schedules

Responsibilities

• Supervise die design and maintenance
• Coordinate with Pressroom to schedule production and die trials
• Train tool and die apprentices in the apprentice program
• Build, troubleshoot, repair and maintain progressive dies
• Maintain tooling records for preventative maintenance
• Assist in design of piece parts for manufacturability
• Understand operation and setup of presses
• Order supplies for tool room and manage die changeover
• Ensure quality from stamping department and tooling upkeep
• Quote tooling costs and maintain a safe work area

Specifically, we are seeking experience with …

• Leading a team responsible for building, repairing, maintaining, and troubleshooting precision tooling used in progressive metal stamping operations.
• Working closely with Engineering and Production to maximize tooling performance and minimize manufacturing downtime.
• Ensuring production of small to large progressive tools.
• Machining, precision form grinding, and keeping machinery running flawlessly.
• Traditional, highly skilled craftsmanship to keep operations running smoothly.

Our Tool Room Supervisor is responsible for the supervision and support of the tool room and press room supporting OTTO’s stamping production.

The Tool Room Supervisor will:

• Supervise die design and maintenance
• Work with Pressroom to schedule production and new die tryouts
• Work within our apprentice program to train tool and die apprentices
• Build, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain progressive dies
• Understanding of tool steels and production materials
• Thorough knowledge of tool room equipment
• Thorough understanding of piece part inspection to quality specifications
• Must be able to work from blueprints to construct, alter or repair tools
• Responsible for design and fabrications of tooling in stamping departments
• Maintain proper tooling records for preventative maintenance
• Assist in the design of piece parts for manufacturability
• Understand operation of the presses
• Understand the set-up of the presses
• Responsible for ordering supplies for tool room
• Responsible for die changeover
• Responsible for quality from stamping department
• Responsible for preventative maintenance of tool room equipment
• Responsible for quoting tooling costs
• Responsible for a clean and safe work area
• Assists with other related duties as required or assigned

About you - What you’ll bring to the table:

• Minimum 10 years’ experience in Tool and Die
• Stamping Production experience
• Minimum or 3 years as a supervisor
• Knowledge of progressive die design
• Knowledge of SPC
• Ability to lift and move 50lbs. with assistance as necessary
• Ability to use various inspection equipment
• Knowledge of tool steels and stamping materials
• Must be available for mandatory overtime or non-standard or extended work schedule

What OTTO offers for this specific position:

The hiring range listed in this posting is what we, in good faith, anticipate relying on when confirming an hourly rate for this position; exceptions may be considered for highly experienced candidates with multiple years of at-level experience.

• Target hourly hiring range: $45.00 to $65.00 per hour, based on qualifications and experience.
• Profit Sharing Bonus - OTTO believes that it’s fair to share the profits that the employees help to make; profit sharing is distributed to employees twice a year. OTTO’s profit sharing plan is paid at the discretion of the company and is not a guaranteed bonus or any part of a compensation plan.
• Vacation: 80 hours - vacation time is earned on the anniversary date.
