Job summary
Amsted Automotive is seeking a skilled Tool Maker to join our employee-owned team in Michigan. You will set up and operate presses, study blueprints, verify tolerances, and assemble dies and tooling.
The role requires teamwork, reliability, and strong problem-solving abilities, with a focus on quality and safety in a manufacturing environment. Strong communication skills and basic computer literacy are essential as you collaborate with staff and contribute to the continuous improvement of

Responsibilities
- Set up and operate press for building new dies and loading/unloading dies for repair for cold form and finishing.
- Study blueprints, sketches, models or specifications to plan operations for fabricating tools, dies, or assemblies.
- Verify dimensions and tolerances using calipers, micrometers, dial indicators.
- Visualize and compute dimensions, sizes and tolerances of assemblies.
- Set up and operate machines/tools to shape parts to prescribed dimensions.
- Fit and assemble parts to make/repair dies, jigs, gauges and tools.
- Inspect finished dies for smoothness and defects.
- Lift, position and secure machined parts on surfaces using hoists and vises.
- Set up and operate drill presses.

- Set up and operate press for building new dies and unloading and loading dies for repair for cold form and finishing.
- Study blueprints, sketches, models or specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools, dies, or assemblies
- Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers and dial indicators
- Visualize and compute dimensions, sizes, shapes and tolerances of assemblies based on specifications
- Set up and operate conventional or machined tools such as Lates, ID/OD Grinder, surface grinder or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes
- Fit and assemble parts to make, repair or modify dies, jigs, gauges and tools using machine tools and hand tools
- Inspect finished dies for smoothness, contour conformity and defects
- Lift, positions and secure machined parts on surface plates or worktables using hoists, vises, v-blocks or angle plates
- Set up and operate drill presses
- Experience as a Tool Maker
- Proven ability to work well in a team environment
- Possess strong motivational and leadership skills
- Excellent problem-solving skills
- Excellent work record history
- Basic computer skills, including P.C knowledge and current technology software familiarity
- Must have strong oral and written communication skills and be able to communicate with staff well
- Ability to regularly stand or work for long periods of time
- Ability to regularly lift/or move up to ten (10) pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to twenty-five (25) pounds, and occasionally lift to fifty (50) pounds
- While performing the job, the employee is regularly exposed to vibration, repetitive motion, bending, lifting, twisting, crouching, reaching, pushing and/or pulling
- Ability to endure heat
