Job summary

ARaymond in Indiana seeks a Tool & Die Technician to maintain, rework and fabricate dies and tools for production, and to perform changeovers under the Tool Room Supervisor.

Position Summary:

Under the supervision of the Tool Room Supervisor, all Tool & Die Technicians will maintain, rework, and fabricate dies and tools for production requirements, as well as perform changeovers.

Roles and Responsibilities:
  • Maintain existing dies and perform die changeovers to support production requirements.
  • Fabricate, modify, repair, and refurbish dies, tools, and related equipment to meet production specifications.
  • Collaborate with Tool Room, Production, Engineering, Quality, and other departments to address tooling needs and resolve issues.
  • Participate in pre-planning activities for new tooling, tool refurbishment projects, end-of-life tooling replacement, and capacity tooling requirements.
  • Attend and contribute to tooling design reviews, print reviews, and project overview meetings.
  • Plan and lay out work using models, blueprints, drawings, and written or verbal specifications.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the properties and applications of commonly used metals, alloys, and manufacturing methods.
  • Select appropriate materials, tooling, equipment, and processes to efficiently complete assigned tasks.
  • Utilize a variety of tool and die making equipment and precision measuring instruments while maintaining close tolerances.
  • Diagnose tooling issues and evaluate, repair, and adjust dies to ensure parts meet quality and dimensional specifications.
  • Work closely with production personnel, EDM operators, and machine setup personnel to ensure tooling performs as designed.
  • Maintain accurate documentation related to tooling, including logbooks, repair records, process information, and drawing updates.
  • Set up, maintain, and service Tool Room equipment and other related machinery.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
  • Actively support and participate in 5S initiatives, Continuous Improvement activities, and departmental team projects.
  • Follow all company safety, quality, and environmental policies and procedures.
  • Adhere to all safety and environmental guidelines. Following company policies and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.
Education and Experience:
  • 3-5 years of experience working with and troubleshooting dies.
  • Experience with and the ability to operate standard and specialized tool room equipment, including but not limited to drill presses, die wash stations, grinders, and milling machines.
  • Technical certification, apprenticeship, or vocational training in Tool & Die, Machining, or a related field preferred.
  • Knowledge of IATF 16949 Quality Management Systems.
  • Knowledge of ISO 14001 Environmental Management Systems.

Physical Demands
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, stoop, kneel, crouch, and reach throughout the workday.
  • Frequent use of hands and fingers to operate machinery, hand tools, measuring instruments, and precision equipment.
  • Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 50 pounds regularly; heavier loads may require mechanical lifting devices or team assistance.
  • Must be able to work in confined spaces and awkward positions while inspecting, repairing, and maintaining tooling and dies.
  • Requires visual acuity for reading blueprints, drawings, gauges, measuring devices, and performing detailed inspection work.
  • Ability to distinguish variations in dimensions, alignment, and surface conditions to ensure tooling meets specifications.
  • Frequent exposure to moving mechanical parts, vibration, noise, oils, lubricants, and metalworking fluids.
  • Ability to safely operate cranes, hoists, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment, as required.
  • Must be capable of performing repetitive motions involving the hands, wrists, and arms.
  • Ability to climb ladders and access elevated work areas when necessary.
  • Must be able to work overtime, extended shifts, and weekends as needed to support production requirements.
