Job summary

Dowding Industries, Inc. in Michigan seeks a Tool and Die Repair Technician to set up and operate dies, perform preventative maintenance, troubleshoot, and repair damaged tooling.

You will read engineering drawings, measure parts with calipers, micrometers, and height gauges, and work with production to improve setup times and plant reliability.

This on-site role requires safety-conscious hands-on performance and a willingness to contribute to a team focused on quality and efficiency.

Qualifications

Position Summary

This is a tool and die repair technician position responsible for set up and operate a variety of machine tools in the preventative maintenance, troubleshooting, and repairs on damaged dies.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Maintain and repair dies and detailed tooling components.


• Measure, examine, and test dies to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications, using precision instruments.


• Determine product dimensions and tolerances.


• Monitor the accuracy of the dies during the fabricating process.


• Install and repair die tooling, working with progressive stamping presses.


• Troubleshoot probable causes of defective parts, and use root-cause failure analysis to make improvements.


• Interact with Production personnel to improve efficiency of set up times and to minimize machine downtime due to die failures.


• Utilize both large and small hand tools to perform necessary repairs equipment (mills, grinders, lathes, drill presses, milling machines, shapers.)


• Read and interpret detailed Engineering drawings and utilize precision measuring equipment


• Performs all duties to the prescribed standard.


• Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

• High school diploma (or equivalent) required.


• Must be familiar with progressive, forming and compound dies.


• Must be able to demonstrate the ability to set-up and operate Tool/Die equipment.


• Ability to interpret technical drawings and blueprints required.


• Use of measuring equipment such as calipers, micrometers, and height gauges required.

• The employee is frequently required to stand; sit and talk or hear.

• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.


• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.

Work Environment

• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts.


• The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places and fumes or airborne particles.


• The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.
