Moog is seeking a Tool Designer to join our Blacksburg, VA team onsite. You will create 3D models and 2D schematics for molds and fixtures, collaborating with Manufacturing Engineers to improve tooling design and performance.

Ideal candidates bring machine shop experience or prior tool design roles, plus CAD proficiency. Travel internationally once per year may be required; the role offers a strong pay package and comprehensive benefits.

Qualifications

  • HS diploma or GED required.
  • 3+ years of machine shop experience or 2+ years as Tool Designer, or equivalent education.
  • Experience with CAD; 3D printing is a plus.
  • Willingness to travel internationally once per year.

Responsibilities

  • Create 3D models and 2D schematics for molds, fixtures, and tools using CAD.
  • Partner with Manufacturing Engineers to support tooling design and continuous improvement.
  • Select optimal materials for tool construction by evaluating durability, heat resistance, machinability, and cost.
  • Generate Bills of Materials (BOMs) to itemize each component and material.
  • Check, maintain, and control tool drawings and documentation for accuracy and configuration.
  • Analyze production and tooling issues, recommending and implementing corrective solutions.
  • Assist in training / cross training of others.
  • Work with minimal supervision.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
