General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems is seeking a Tool & Design Engineer I in Lincoln, NE to support the design, development, and deployment of tooling for manufacturing. You will work closely with production teams to deliver reliable tooling solutions.

This entry‑level role requires an engineering degree and up to 3 years of experience, plus CAD proficiency and cost estimation capabilities. You will contribute to fixture and tool design, while learning GD&T practices.

Qualifications

  • Associate's Degree required with 0–3 years of experience.
  • Engineering discipline/major required, minimum background.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel/Word/PowerPoint).

Responsibilities

  • Designs and develops tools and machinery for manufacturing processes.
  • Reviews product design and build requirements to determine tool concepts and specs.
  • Develops designs for fixtures, jigs, gauges, cutting and forming tools and carts.
  • Uses CAD to create design models and documentation for fabrication.
  • Estimates costs, resources, and materials for tools; may manage sourcing.

Essential Functions
  • Designs and develops tools and machinery used to facilitate and optimize manufacturing processes.
  • Reviews product design and build requirements to determine tooling concepts, design options, testing plans, and specifications.
  • Develops designs for fixtures, jigs, gauges, cutting and forming tools, carts, racks, and other items to support production.
  • Utilizes Computer-Aided Design (CAD) to create accurate, complete, and concise design models and documentation to fabricate tools.
  • Estimates costs, resource requirements, and materials required for tools.
  • May manage the sourcing, quoting, or procurement of purchased tools.
Required Qualifications
  • Required education and experience: Associate's Degree and 0-3 years' experience
  • Discipline/Major: Engineering degree required
  • Critical professional related technical skills; computer skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint)

  • Preferred education and experience: Bachelor's Degree
  • Knowledge, skills & abilities: Technical Expertise. 3D Modeling. Design Review. Failure Analysis. Functional Requirements. Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T).
