Job summary

Wabtec Corporation is seeking a Tool and Die Technician in Jackson, TN to design, fabricate, repair, and maintain dies, jigs, gauges, and weld fixtures used in production. You will read drawings, use mills and lathes, and ensure tight tolerances and uptime.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED; Technical associate’s degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years of work-related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong background in fixture design and welding applications.
  • Proficient with manual and CNC machining equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings.
  • Excellent problem-solving and root cause analysis skills.
  • Strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Responsibilities

  • Design, fabricate, assemble, and repair a variety of production tooling including dies, jigs, gauges, and weld fixtures.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with tooling and fixtures to minimize downtime and improve reliability.
  • Support Manufacturing Engineering and Production teams with fixturing solutions that enhance product quality and throughput.
  • Read and interpret blueprints, CAD models, and engineering drawings to ensure tooling accuracy.
  • Utilize precision measuring instruments and machining equipment including mills, lathes, grinders, and surface plates.
  • Conduct preventive maintenance and documentation on all tooling and fixtures.
  • Collaborate with Engineering to implement continuous improvements to fixture and die design for manufacturability and safety.
  • Assist with setup and alignment of weld fixtures to ensure proper part location and weld integrity.
  • Maintain compliance with safety, quality, and housekeeping standards in the Tool Room.
  • You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.

How will you make a difference?

The Tool and Die Technician is responsible for designing, building, maintaining, and repairing tooling, dies, jigs, and weld fixtures used in production operations. This role ensures all tooling supports safe, efficient, and repeatable manufacturing processes while maintaining tight tolerances and production uptime.

What will your typical day look like?
  • Design, fabricate, assemble, and repair a variety of production tooling including dies, jigs, gauges, and weld fixtures.

The salary rate for this role is currently $30.00-$42.00 per hour. The actual salary offered to a candidate may be influenced by a variety of factors, such as: training, transferable skills, work experience, education, business needs, market demands and work location. Language Ability:

The ability to read a limited number of two- and three-syllable words and to recognize similarities and differences between words and between series of numbers. Ability to print and speak simple sentences.

Math Ability:

This role requires strong, applied mathematical skills, primarily focusing on geometry, trigonometry, and algebra to design, build, and repair precision tools, jigs, and fixtures. Proficiency in handling decimal-to-fraction conversions and calculating, often to a tolerance of .0001 of an inch, is essential for this role.

Reasoning Ability:

The ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but uninvolved written or oral instructions. Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Computer Skills:

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Manufacturing software.
