Job summary

Gestamp seeks an experienced Tool & Die Technician to manage processes, supervise and perform scheduled and unscheduled tool and die making, repair and equipment maintenance in an automotive stamping facility.

The role emphasizes troubleshooting, fixture fabrication, and involvement in ISO 9001/IATF 16949 audits, with overtime and shift flexibility to meet plant schedules and customer dates.

Qualifications

• Must be a team-oriented player and work well with others.
• Able to read detailed prints and order perishable details such as punches and pins.
• Own a basic set of precision/hand tools.
• Willing to work any shift and overtime (including Sundays) as needed.

Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot, maintain, and improve tools, dies, jigs, fixtures in an automotive stamping and robotic welding facility.
• Fabricate new and repair existing details for robotic weld cells and fixtures.
• Lead continuous tool, die and mechanical improvements with focus on quality and cost savings.
• Participate in Layered Process Audit and internal ISO 9001/IATF 16949 audit schedules.
• Assist in answering questions for audits and support engineering changes as required.

Job description

Manage processes and people as well as performs scheduled and unscheduled tool and die making/repair and equipment maintenance activities.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Responsible for troubleshooting, upkeep, preventive maintenance, dimensional capability, making and continuous improvement of various tools, dies, jigs, and fixtures in an automotive stamping and robotic welding facility.
2. Fabrication of new and repair of replacement details for robotic weld cells, spot weld cells as well as assemble, build and maintain fixtures.
3. Committed involvement with quality, cost savings, and continuous tool, die and mechanical improvements.
4. Participation in the Layered Process Audit schedule.
5. Participation in the Internal ISO 9001/IATF 16949 Audit schedule (applies only to certified ISO 9001/IATF 16949 internal auditors).
6. Participation and cooperation in answering questions and providing information for internal and external audits regarding or related to ISO 9001/IATF 16949, VDA 6.3, and customer standards.
7. Any other duties deemed necessary or appropriate including but not limited to die setting as required.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

1. USDOL Tool & Die Journeyman's Card or proof of (8) years related experience;
2. Management experience leading a T&D department is highly preferred;
3. Minimum (2) years experience troubleshooting in a Production Stamping Plant.
4. Experience relative to medium to large Tandem Line Dies or small to medium Transfer Dies or medium to large Progressive Dies required with experience relative to Transfer Dies & large Progressive Dies a plus.
5. Experience with implementation of Engineering Changes a plus.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

1. Must be a Team oriented player & work well with others;
2. Must have their own basic set of precision/hand tools;
3. Must be able to read detail prints & order perishable details such as pierce punches & buttons, gas springs, guide pins and bushings, etc.
4. Must be willing to work any shift as Plant schedule and/or manpower requirements deem necessary;
5. Must be willing to work overtime as required (including Sundays) to maintain all Plant functions relative to the Tool Room such as but not limited to Program Launch, die repairs, engineering change timing to customer dates/requirements, etc.
