Main Duties & Responsibilities

Job Summary: Fabricate and/or repair precision carbide and steel tooling (dies, jigs, fixtures, gauges, etc.) for the manufacture of aircraft quality fasteners, utilizing automatic and manual machines, and/or cutting apparatuses, and precision measuring devices.

  • Read and interpret specifications such as blueprints, sketches, models, or descriptions to determine materials and machines required to fabricate parts.
  • Compute dimensions, plan layout, and determine assembly method and sequence of operations.
  • Measure, make, and scribes metal stock for machining.
  • Test functional performance of tooling under specified conditions.
  • Set up and operate equipment such as lathe, milling machine, and grinder to machine parts, and verify conformance of machined parts to specifications.
  • Analyze results on defective tooling to determine cause of failure.
  • Examine standard to previously used dies, tools, jigs, and fixtures, and recommend design modification regarding construction and function of part.
  • Meet and maintain productivity levels and quality requirements in support of departmental standards, goals and schedules.
  • Perform record keeping, housekeeping, and follow safety regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Language Skills

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.

Mathematical Skills

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure; ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent; ability to apply basic concepts of algebra and geometry.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Education and/or Experience

High school diploma or GED; a minimum of 2-3 years experience in fabricating aircraft quality fastener tooling; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Physical Demands

The employee regularly uses hands to finger, handle, or feel and talk or hear; frequently stands and sits; occasionally walks; lifts or moves up to 10 pounds; specific vision abilities include close vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Compensation

In compliance with all states and cities requiring transparency of pay, the expected pay range for this position is $24.00 - $46.00.
