Job summary

SAIC is seeking a Journey Level CNC Machinist/Tool and Die Maker for NAWC Crane, IN. Candidate will operate and program CNC machines incl. lathes and mills, and read blueprints to ensure parts meet tight tolerances.

Minimum 5 years’ experience with Mastercam and other programming languages, strong details, problem-solving, and teamwork; on-site role requiring commitment to quality and safety.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; technical CNC certification preferred.
• Minimum 5 years of experience as a CNC machinist, journey-level.
• Strong knowledge of CNC programming languages, including Mastercam.
• Proficiency in reading and interpreting blueprints and engineering drawings.
• Experience with lathes and mills; CAD/Wire/Sinker EDM systems.

Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC machines, including lathes and mills, to produce precision parts per specifications.
• Interpret blueprints, sketches, and engineering drawings for dimensions and tolerances.
• Perform advanced CNC programming using Mastercam and other languages.
• Maintain machines and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
• Inspect finished parts with micrometers and calipers for quality control.
• Keep accurate production records including setup times and cycles.

The ideal candidate will be proficient in operating and programming CNC machines, including lathes, mills, and other machining equipment. This position requires a strong attention to detail, excellent problem-solving skills, and a commitment to producing high-quality parts.

Key Responsibilities

• Set up and operate CNC machines, including lathes and mills, to produce precision parts according to specifications.
• Interpret blueprints, sketches, and engineering drawings to determine dimensions and tolerances.
• Advanced level CNC programming of CNC machines using Mastercam and other programming languages.
• Perform routine maintenance on machines and troubleshoot issues as they arise.
• Inspect finished products for quality and adherence to specifications, using precision measuring tools such as micrometers and calipers.
• Make adjustments to machine settings as necessary to achieve desired results.
• Maintain a clean and organized work area, adhering to all safety protocols and procedures.
• Collaborate with engineers and other team members to optimize machining processes and improve efficiency.
• Keep accurate records of production runs, including setup times, cycle times, and any issues encountered.
