Qualifications

  • Minimum 3 years of experience measuring parts using inspection tools (calipers, gauges, micrometers).
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a machinist.
  • Knowledge of steels and nickel used in forge manufacturing.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States; visa sponsorship not available.
  • Position subject to ITAR US person status.

Responsibilities

  • Assist engineering with troubleshooting die performance issues.
  • Create written and electronic work orders for the repair of dies.
  • Organize machining and repair schedules for tooling.
  • Create status reports on tooling progress.
  • Maintain a safe, clean work area and follow company policies.
  • Understand forging process fundamentals and GD&T principles.
  • Read blueprints and interpret general GD&T principles.
  • Set up and operate CNC lathes, CNC milling machines, drills, manual lathes/mills and other tools.

Our Savannah Operations is a heavy industrial Forging manufacturing plant located in Midway, Georgia, employs approximately 180 people and is poised for growth!

JOB SUMMARY:

The Tool and Die Machinist is responsible for understanding our forging process and fundamentals in order to help troubleshoot any performance issues with dies, as well as manufacture and repair all tooling required for plant operations.

Essential Functions:

This is a representative summary of the major duties and responsibilities and is not all inclusive. Incumbent(s) may and may be required to perform additional, position-specific tasks.

  • Assist engineering with troubleshooting die performance issues.
  • Create written and electronic work orders for the repair of dies.
  • Organize machining and repair schedules for tooling.
  • Create status reports on tooling progress.
  • Maintains a safe and organized work area and follows all company policy, safety and procedures
  • Ability to complete 6S projects as assigned
  • Understands Forging Process and fundamentals
  • Regular Attendance is an essential function of the position.
  • Sets up and operate any standard and specialized machines to perform necessary operations in departments to which assigned, including but not limited to:
    • CNC lathes (horizontal and vertical)
    • CNC milling machines
    • Drill presses
    • Manual lathes
    • Manual mills
    • Saws
    • General hand tools
    • Jib and overhead cranes
  • General understanding of G-code to perform common machining operations
  • Learn to setup and operate any new machinery added to the departments to which assigned
  • Checks parts with standard gauges or precision measuring instruments (micrometers, calipers, thread gauges, depth micrometers and dial indicator) and submits parts for inspection as required
  • Reads blueprints and understands general GD&T principles
  • Evaluate, inspect, and document the condition of dies and die components and log the status of the job
  • Understand the speeds and feeds pertaining to various machines and materials
  • Communicate effectively with engineering and coordinators
  • Working knowledge in manufacturing and quality processes and principles
  • Performs other tasks as required
  • Can send End of Shift reports as needed
Physical Demands:
  • Continuously required to wear common Protective or Safety Equipment such as Safety Shoes, Glasses, Gloves, Hearing Protection, Hard Hats.
  • Continuously required to stand; walk; use hands to handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Frequently required lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Occasionally required to sit.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Nickel and titanium manufacturing facility. Exposure to: moving mechanical parts; wet and/or humid conditions; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; extreme cold, extreme heat, vibration; loud noise level

  • The standard shift for this position is a 12 hours weekend day shift-Friday, Saturday and Sunday from 6AM-6PM
Basic Qualifications:
  • Minimum 3 years of experience measuring parts using various inspection tools (calipers, gauges, micrometers)
  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience as a machinist
  • Knowledge of various types of steels and nickel used in forge manufacturing.
  • Employees must be legally authorized to work in the United States. Verification of employment eligibility will be required at the time of hire. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
