Job summary

The Head Start program in Kentucky is seeking a non-exempt Toddler Teacher to implement an age-appropriate curriculum and supervise children. You will report to the Center Director and ensure a safe, engaging environment.

Responsibilities include planning and evaluating development experiences, maintaining records, visiting families at home, recruiting participants, and partnering with parents and the Health Specialist to support children's well-being.

Qualifications

  • Minimum CDA or comparable credential for infant/toddler.
  • Must obtain/maintain CDA for Infant/Toddler within two years.
  • Annual TB test and physical exam required.
  • Criminal background check required.
  • Strong communication, computer skills, time management, organization, recordkeeping, and teamwork.

Responsibilities

  • Plans and evaluates developmental experiences for children.
  • Maintains child records.
  • Engages parents in learning and program activities.
  • Conducts 2 home visits per family yearly.
  • Encourages parent participation in Family Day and Policy Council.
  • Identifies and recruits participants.
  • Assists enrollment as directed.
  • Helps families access goods/services.
  • Builds strong relationships with families and staff.
  • Supports children's health care with Health Specialist.
  • Participates in pre-/in-service training.
  • Supervises children during all times.
  • Maintains safe, clean environment via daily sanitation.
  • Handles admin tasks: documentation, assessments, parent correspondence, lesson plans, In-Kind, reports.
  • Performs other duties.

Description

This is a non-exempt professional teaching position responsible for child development activities using an age-appropriate curriculum. The Toddler Teacher is directly responsible to the Center Director of the facility.

EXAMPLES OF WORK PERFORMED AND CONDITIONS:

a. Plans, executes, directs, and evaluates developmental experiences of the children.

b. Maintains child records.

c. Engages in learning and developmental experiences with parents, and otherwise participates with parents in center and program-related activities.

d. Makes visits at the home of each child to increase his/her understanding of each child's family and home environment, and to increase parental understanding of, and engagement in, the child's developmental experiences and the Head Start Program, (minimally 2 visits per family per year).

e. Provide opportunities for parent participation in Family Day activities, Policy Council, parentdeveloped activities, etc.

f. Identifies prospective program participants.

g. Assists in the recruitment of program participants.

h. May assist in the enrollment of program participants as directed by the Center Director.

i. May assist Head Start families to obtain goods and services, which they need to improve their family's life or standard of living.

j. Establishes and maintains strong, positive relationships between Head Start families and the Head Start center staff and program.

k. May assist families and the Head Start Health Specialist in ensuring that Head Start children receive proper medical and dental care.

l. Engages in pre-service and in-service training as directed.

m. Supervises children at all times, including classroom, meals, outdoor play, and rest time.

n. Responsible for maintaining a safe and clean environment by using daily sanitation practices and active supervision.

o. Administrative duties, including, but not limited to, child documentation, child assessments, parent correspondence, lesson planning, In-Kind sheets, and incident/accident reports.

p. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a Child Development Associate (CDA) Credential or comparable Credential for infant/toddler aged children. An associate, baccalaureate, or advanced degree and coursework related to ECE, with experience teaching infant/toddler aged children, is preferred.
  • Required to obtain/maintain a CDA (Child Development Associate) for Infant/Toddler aged children within two years of hire.
  • Required to maintain current health requirements of an annual T.B. Tine and physical exam.
  • Must be able to successfully pass criminal background screening.
  • Must have strong skills in the following: verbal/written communication, computer applications, time management, organization, recordkeeping, teamwork, communicate with children and families using kindness and respect, practice positive behavior support techniques effectively, utilize curriculum with fidelity, manage assessments and electronic recordkeeping. Must be willing to continue formal education, as necessary.
  • Needs to be able to lift 40-50 pounds.
